Water Poisoning Claim Clouding Garcia Hill Community
The Garcia family and Kleberg County residents fight uranium contaminated water linked to an In-situ uranium mine by Uranium Resources Inc. EPA issued a 2004 warning to stop drinking the water due to elevated cancer risk. A county settlement requires cleanup of first mines and a $20,000 monitor payment, with residents wary of future mining.

City worker disciplined over drowning of stray dogs in sewer
Jourdanton public works supervisor Chantan Morin was disciplined after city employees drowned six stray dogs at the sewer plant to save money. City Manager Dan Nick calls it a freak, one-time bad decision and says new policy and animal-control classes will prevent repeats. The drownings, witnessed during a community service project, were reported after a family alerted authorities. Jourdanton sits about 40 miles south of San Antonio.
