Diphtheria Case Affects Keep Cottage Residents In Ohio

A resident of Keep Cottage on Main Street fell ill with diphtheria last Thursday, exposing several young women staying there. All exposed received antitoxin, the rooms were disinfected, and the cottage cat was killed. No further cases appeared. diphtheria is widespread in northern Ohio. A scarlet fever case arose at Talcott Hall last week, with the patient sent to the detention hospital. exposed individuals are checked daily for infection signs.

A fragmentary campus memory tells how a group of Oberlin students moved a boulder from Plum Creek to the campus in 1897 98. They hauled it by night while a Romanlike triumph marked their effort and the stone was set as a class memorial with numerals commemorating its tenth anniversary in 1908.

Debaters Chosen After Yesterday's Tryouts

Four new men selected to fill vacancies on the Debate Reserve here and at Wesleyan after tryouts supervised by Professor Caskey and Robert White head. Eight men chosen to oppose Ohio Wesleyan and Western Reserve January 16, six as regulars and two alternates. Names include Bruce Baxter Leonard Bennett Ernest Byrnes Martin Dodge Luther Gulick Almon Payne Josiah Buell Carlton Matson. Debate hinges on U S intervention in Latin America to secure stable government. Oberlin and Wes leyan have past wins. Reserve and Oberlin to debate at Delaware and here. Wesleyan notes strong home record. Reserve features experienced debaters. Oberlin's Dodge advanced from alternate. Gulick remains veteran.

Sophomore Class Meeting Introduces Innovations at Sturges Hall

The sophomore class meeting in Sturges hall Monday featured extemporaneous speeches chosen by the audience and other reforms to enliven the program. A class party was announced for Warner Gymnasium on Wednesday evening November 6 from 7:30 to 9:00, with a quartette performing at the close.

Library adds to set of Nem Percs and New York trip

Oberlin College librarian Professor A. Root arranged photostatic copies of three rare Nem Perces language books for the New York Public Library for its use. In exchange New York Public Library supplied copies of three other books in the same language. Each library gains a near-complete set of the rare press works, the first west of the Rocky Mountains.

Tragedy on smokestack platform ends in Pittsburgh death

Charles Baker of Pittsburgh was killed and M J Lawson of Brownsville West Virginia injured when they fell from a top platform on a smokestack under construction at the new central heating plant in front of the Men's Building last Saturday at 3 45 pm. Baker died within ten minutes. Lawson suffered a fractured skull and not sure of recovery. A third worker stood outside the stack as a load was raised. scaffolding shifted and tipped, causing the fall.

Women Senate Sends Out Questionnaires

The Women’s Senate at 118 meeting Monday night decided to send 400 questionnaires with two questions on changes in women’s rules. The committee hopes to have definite answers by Christmas. The notes mention deans of colleges and social workers as recipients.

Freshmen and seniors clash as Edwards passes set up Arnold’s one yard score in the opening quarter. Dutch Thrower intercepts a freshmen pass, Reese runs in a second tally as the quarter ends. Three more quarters yield no scoring amid a rain soaked, slippery field. Arnold dominates for the seniors with steady rushes while Davey leads the freshmen on several runs. Final score 14-0. Junior sophomore game ends 6-0 after Davis seals a late score. Davie adds a second TD and Wallace misses an extra point.
