Varsity heads to Cornell annual game in 6:30 start

The squad leaves at 6 30 Thursday for the Cornell match with 18 players set to play. Coach Metcalf notes past results and the team’s improved prospects as they travel to Cleveland then to Buffalo before heading to Ithaca Friday. Injuries limit Shore but many players return for the East clash.

Professor Sherman to Give Evening Lectures

Professor Sherman will start a series of twelve evening addresses at Christ church on the first Sunday in October. Each talk will blend interpretation and discussion with readings, covering topics such as The Poetry of Richard Hovey and The Blue Bird, with others including works by George Herbert, Gerhard Hauptmann, Sir Thomas Browne, Emily Dickinson, and Puritan and New England literature, concluding with Christmas in Literature.

Oriental Rugs Exhibit Promises Weeks of Art Talks

Oberlin Art Association plans a rug exhibit October 6 to 18 featuring Persian and Oriental pieces loaned by Charles M. Hall. Professor Martin will lecture on Oriental Rugs, with four talks in Sturges Hall and French Hall, plus additional lectures by Breasted and Hannah on Egyptian art and architecture.

Mount Union-Scio May Enter Ohio Conference

Mount Union College has 89 percent applied for admission to the Ohio Conference. The teams showed a strong athletic showing last year and Coach Dawson says intercollegiate contests were conducted under conference rules. The matter will be discussed at the meeting this month.

Jor Play Tryouts Planned for Monday at Peters Hall

The tryouts for the senior play Romeo and Juliet will be held in Peters Hall Monday morning at o'clock. Professor Jeli will coach the play this year. Candidates should hand their names to any senior play committee member and appear Monday morning with a short sketch, memorized or well read.

Piano recital highlights three numbers for artist course

Tosef Hofmann will give a piano recital while Oscar Seagle and the orchestra plan to perform. The program will feature three numbers, with details to be announced at the venue. The event promises a refined evening of classical music with soloist Hofmann and Seagle leading the ensemble.

Women’s Senate Fills Offices Left Vacant

At a meeting of the Women’s Senate on Monday evening the following offices were filled by election Vice-president, secretary-treasurer, honor court members Gertrude Wheeler, chairman, and other posts including temporary chairman of the sing committee. Gertrude Wheeler and Helen Swift will form a permanent committee to confer with the women’s board and Conservatory representatives on rule revisions for women.

Fry Outs for College Glee Club Completes Tryouts

About fifty men attempted preliminary examinations for Oberlin College Glee Club membership. Twelve new members were chosen, joining a roster that includes tenors, baritones, basses, and a pianist. Practice starts Saturday with the first concert scheduled for November 29 in Sandusky.

Musical Union Holds Annual Admission Examinations

The Musical Union admitted about forty new members after a Tuesday evening exam. The first rehearsal occurred Thursday at Warner concert hall. A two day May festival with two large choral works is planned. The union, led by Dr. G. W. Andrews, draws singers from Oberlin church choirs. Another exam for late tryouts is set for Tuesday evening October 7 with space for about twenty five more members.

The fist social gathering of the men will occur a week from Saturday in the lobby of the Men's Building. H. M. Metcalf, the Y M C A social chairman, is planning a series of men's unions. Clark W. Chamberlain, formerly professor of physics at Vassar, to become president of Denison University at Granville.
