Carr Rejects Request from Mayor of Erie

The mayor’s letter requesting action over two days of picketing at the Hammermill Paper Company Plant in Erie was rejected. Demonstrators organized by Oberlin for Civil Rights helped drive arrests of 67 pickets, including about 35 college students, by Wednesday May 12.

King Contract To Include Fair Employment Clause

The College moves to insert a non-discrimination clause in the King Building contract and requires Austin Company to extend it to all subcontracts. NAACP and Oberlin activists back the measure, while the College plans to pursue legal action if unions block integration efforts.
