Historical note recalls mock conventions from 1864 to 1912 with national figures like Warren G. Harding and Hon. Paul D. Howland. Reports describe elaborate spectacles, banners, wire communications, and diverse delegations including Morhon and Western groups.
The International committee of the Y M C A chose Oberlin as the conference seat, with 75 to 100 supervisory workers from the United States and Canada in attendance. Oberlin graduates participated and attended the Cate game. Sessions in the Men’s building auditorium covered reports from commissions on standards, policies, and methods pending the International convention in Cleveland.
Oberlin women plan a May 23 suffrage convention at 9:30 a m to speak from a platform and form their own, with delegates from every state in the Union to report progress. National and state leaders are named, including Rose Moriarity and several committee chairs, stressing loyalty to Oberlin and the cause of women’s rights.
A burial service took place Saturday evening at 8 30 noting the spirit of Mock Convents and campus events. The gathering heard speakers from the real parties and prayed for the pot.
The Cleveland Union and the Chicago orchestra plan a double program featuring Beethoven and other major works. Singers include Hinkle soprano Marea eye and Reinwald Werterath bass with conductor Fredrick Stock. The event marks a Cleveland premiere of a Bax piece. Registration cards come from Deans Fitch and Lord, with upperclassmen visiting their major advisors first. Sopho mores go to general advisors, and a posted list will show office hours.
