Reserve Team Wins Two Victories In Week

The Reserve team secured two victories this week and earlier losses are noted. Academy and Ravens clashed with high intensity as the Raven team fought hard, while the Academy led in points during the late stages. The Bureau of Appointments announced civil service exams for teacher and industrial positions in the Philippine service to be held March 13, 1944.

Home Oratorical Contest Set For March 4

The annual Home Oratorical Contest, winner to represent Oberlin at the Northern Oratorical League in May, will be held Monday evening in Finney Chapel. Contestants include A. S. Barnard, B. J. Clark, B. C. Hopper, W. H. Mack, Shel M. B. Oatman, and Carl H. Slocum. The field is strong, and the race for top honors is expected to be close.

Blue Bird pantomime draws large Cleveland crowds

A Western paper notes a big exodus to Cleveland this week to see Maeterlinck’s The Blue Bird at the Colonial. The Thursday holiday caused the largest turnout with specials running at 6 10 pm and crowds leaving after Wednesday night showings. About three hundred observers filled the audience, with lower attendance at breakfast Thursday morning.

Washington Birthday Address By Dan Bradley

A small audience heard Washington's Birthday program in Inney Chapel featuring overtures from The Merry Wives of Windsor and Africa Prayer. Rev W N Thomas D D compared George Washington with modern aspirants and presidents critiquing Taft Bryan and others, ending with a new National Hymn and benediction. Mary Atter 11 visits and teaches at Wellington High School. C W Williams to speak tonight at the Congregational church Men’s Club.

Death of Dean Miller’s Mother in Chicago

The remains of Anna Fifield Miller died Tuesday at the home of her son Dean Miller and were interred in Rose Hill Cemetery, Chicago. Mrs Miller was over eighty years old. Dean Miller and his wife have gone to Chicago to attend the funeral.

Prograph Studio Changes Hands In Oberlin Area

W B Newton sells Prograph Studio to Hush Welsh of Cleveland and Archibald Crombie of this area. The Welsh Crombie Art Studio aims to extend high grade art. Students Fail to Meet College Standards In Semester Report

Dean’s office records show 192 of 975 students, about 19.6 percent, faced conditions or failures. Among them 125 were conditioned in one subject, 28 failed in one subject, and 39 were conditioned or failed in more than one. Six dropped out and nine were dropped for poor work, with four more not returning.

Art Department Showcases Chase Painting by Great Living Artist

The Art Department displays a portrait by William B. Chase, a painting valued at about 900 dollars by the Olney Collection appraiser last year. It was a gift to Mise lice Fairchild, daughter of President Fairchild, during a studio visit in New York. The work is hung high in Society Hall's west room, accessible to those who seek it.
