The Course Evaluation Committee of Student Council will issue a questionnaire to all students to help compose a course selection guide. If responses are favorable, a published summary may appear in May for next fall’s registration.
The faculty approved changes from the Special Committee on Grading Practices. Academic honors will be based on grade average, not class rank, with a four point scale converting later grades to numbers. The plan increases A and B ranges while reducing lower grades, aiming to reflect current practices and help graduate admissions.
The Board proposed depolarization with three recommendations to create mixed dorms and assign new housing to both genders. Aimed at informal contact and safety, the plan would convert a co ed dorm and allocate two new dorms for women and men in different campus areas. The Subcommittee's report and a forthcoming discussion by the Presidents Dorm Committee are noted, with questions to be answered by Student Council and the Dorm Committee.
Saga Gallups Garmandizers reports a student food survey at the College showing tossed green salad and grilled ham burger as top items for lunch with roast beef dinner and ice cream sundaes popular overall. Director Robert Copeland notes steak is overpriced yet ranked poorly as a dinner entree and hints at a banquet meal at Dascom to boost steak support while calling for reinstatement of food committees to improve dining hall economy.
Student organizations seek 13000 more than last year in proposed budgets submitted to Student Council. Treasurer Paul Osterman notes seven groups request funds for the first time and many others ask for more. 80000 allocated from the General Fee funds the council, with health service and library also funded.
