Winter Sports Suggested for Oberlin Campus and Birmingham

Oblerlin residents discuss expanding winter sports with new coasting slides skating areas and a campus pond to flood for smooth ice. Proposals include a Birmingham field slideways a dammed Plum Creek rink and use of the campus teed bed for skating with potential canoeing in spring and fall.

Wesleyan Track Meet Set For March 18

On March 16 the Oberlin Wesleyan track meet will occur at Delaware with twelve events including a mile relay. The visiting team is allowed up to eighteen men.

Academy Basketball Team Faces Raven High School Rivalry

The Academy basketball team schedules a February 2 game at Warner gymnasium against Raven High School of Youngstown at seven o'clock. Raven High enters the season with a string of victories. Admission is 25 cents.

Finals in Girls Skating Contes Tomorrow

Finals in the Womens Skating contest are set for tomorrow afternoon with 20 entrants from Pres Conservatory. Mrs C F Doe, Prof Grover and Mr Gibson name the winners and award the cup. contestants include Joln Sorin Hel Dart Marjorie Hull Sintra Alger Allee Standale Ruth Smith and Lesonora Davidson. Admission noted with a cent charge.

During a seven day western trip President King will address crowds in Winona St Paul Minneapolis Minn and Wilmette Il He delivered four addresses at the Minnesota Y M C A State convention in Winona last week preached in St Paul and spoke to the Jens Federation In Minneapolis he attended a meeting of the Oberlin Alumni Association He will lecture at Wilmette and speaks at Knox College and the education of the new science building with a focus on The Contribution of Modern Science to the Ideal Interests He plans to return to Oberlin on February 1.

Alumni Magazine Fellowship Open to Oberlin Graduates

At Oberlin College the Faculty approved an Alumni Magazine Fellowship of 600 for 1912-13. Open to any graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences, with preference to recent grads, it requires consultation with department heads and election by the Faculty. Applications due to Professor F. Anderseng by May 3.

Oberlin concert opens with Tchaikovsky concerto

Mr Arthur Shattuck, noted American pianist, gives the first Oberlin hearing of the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Domrosehoch troupe. The program includes Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony and Ballet Music. Miss Jamieson, Conservatory Senior, plays in preparation for the concert in Musical Appreciation class.

The diary shows an acting edition of Lady Gregory and Lynges Irish play being staged here. The English Department sought Irish players to tour Oberlin but heavy current contracts prevent arranging a date.

Glee Club Trip Heads to Alleghenies and Pennsylvania

The Glee Club plans a spring tour through the Alleghenies and Pennsylvania communities including Pittsburg Mercer Wilmerding Scottdale and McKeesport. The trip is organized by the Y M C A with McConaughey and Mr. McGill leading concerts in the East and West and aims to rival other large college clubs.

New York Times Adds College News Feature

The New York Times will publish a new Sunday department on leading American colleges and universities starting February 4. The first issue offers a Columbia University piece by President Butler, with photos of several schools and a request to Oberlin for a future reading article.
