ABC cameras film Howard Cosell on Oberlin College campus to open a national program. The crew follows Cosell through Philips Gym and Tap pan Square as campus leaders including Jack Scot and Tommie Smith meet him. Betsy Elder and Mark Moskowitz participate in a short on camera piece.
A correction clarifies that seniors will graduate individually with diplomas not en masse this spring. The footage shows Cosell and Tommie Smith during a chaotic live segment, audience reactions, and a shout about a 1968 incident. The scene ends with Cosell leaving for the airport.
Budget reductions of about 25 percent force the dormitory system to reorganize staffing next year. Dorms will select their own student staff per house, with funds allocated per capita and dorm committees empowered to assign duties and salaries within the new framework.
A fragmentary report indicates a photograph of Elizabeth Smith prior to publication has surfaced. Jaca ne discovered the tones this week with the next issue, marking the first time that coeducation appeared at a collegiate level in the United States.
