Freshman Triumph Edges Sophomores In Close Relay Meet

The Saturday night relay meet between freshmen and sophomores ended in a tight finish. Freshmen dominated events led by Forbes and Yocum, while Sophomores relied on Harvey to win several races. Final key moments came on the last lap of the 4x100 and the final sprint, with Freshmen securing the overall lead and multiple event wins.

Academy Football Men Hold Annual Banquet

Academy football men held their annual banquet in the Men’s Building after the event Saturday. A short business meeting elected Murphy captain for next year. The following men were voted into the team: D. A. Baxter, Heron, MacMillan, Lightner, Slew, Lane, Anderson, Islurs, Boardman, Rothiss, May, Campbell, and Hat.

Phi Delta Wins First Intersociety Debate Victory Declared

The Phi Delta team defeated PAL Kappa by unanimous decision in a tense intersociety debate. Judges Proctor Shaw Professor Sherman and Attorney Hanme presided as PHI DELTA argued for the initiative and referendum, led by AW Bachman, Harry Murphy, Rt Davia, John Lave, G. Hark, and Paul Stunsa. Pal Kappa, though clearly outmatched, had strong rebuttal from James Beck, Murphy and Davie.

Will Lyon Writes on His Work in China

Will F. Lyon teaches in Tianjin China at Psi Private Middle School for twenty four hours weekly, and M C A Night School for six hours weekly all in English. He notes students with no foreign language background learn quickly and that his music helps his enjoyment and popularity. He plays in a Chinese church and the M C A and receives many invitations to foreigners homes.

Three old veterans form nucleus of varsity team

The Oberlin College basketball season opens with about twenty men reporting for the first workout led by veterans Captain Miller Pyle and Young. New players include Pisher DeGroft Thollar McClure Harvey Spore Peake Neal and Rees. The squad aims to match last year’s Oberlin teams with a tough schedule of six home games and several out of town contests including matches against Denison Kenyon Rochester Syracuse West Point and Ohio State. Ticket sales begin December 15 with season tickets priced at 1.75 and seating reserved at Warner Gymnasium.

La Cercle Francaise Christmas Celebration at Proctors’ Home

The French club La Cercle Francaise will celebrate Noël at the home of professors for Cowdery next Wednesday at four in the afternoon. Songs appropriate to the season will be sung by the club with an electric piano accompaniment. A light repast will be served and the club will conclude with dances.

Basketball Postponed Until After Christmas For Girls

The Junior-Senior and Freshman-Sophomore girls basketball games scheduled for Friday, December 15 have been postponed until after Christmas due to Gymnasium and Field Association rules. No games occur during the fall term and an amendment cannot be completed, so the events shift to the second Friday of the winter term.

Opera to Be Given by Conservatory Members

Report states conservatory members plan to present a comic opera this winter term likely in late February. Production not yet chosen but under consideration and a modern rendition will be staged.

Princeton Forms Hygiene Department to Boost Student Welfare

Princeton establishes a department of hygiene and physical education to match health and welfare with broader athletic participation. Doag Professor Raycroft of Coligo University leads the program with four assistants including Dr. Edwin Fauver who oversaw Swarthmore gym work. Fauver holds an Oberlin AB (1899) and completed the 1906 Physical Training course. F. C. Koehler, known for youth work at Swarthmore, departs to lead Y M C A efforts in Minneapolis starting January 1, planning a long stay.

Six candidates advancing to the home contest include Alfred J. Barnard, Baward Clark, Perry Hopper, Harry Mack, Miriam Oatman, and Carl Slocum. The preliminaries yielded strong material with ten finalists. home contest selections follow for the Northern Oratorical League at Northwestern University in May. many returning speakers are expected to develop into varsity level.
