Reddin Brashares Victorious In Scholastic Debate Event

Oberlin teams led by Reddin and Brashares won first in a scholastic debate tournament with five of eight ballots. They tied for second in the varsity division with John Carroll and Western Reserve as Ohio Wesleyan, Kent State, and others defeated multiple schools. A Conservatory String Quartet performed in Warner Hall as part of the evening program.

Order Halts Enlisting In Armed Services

A wartime halt on enlistments for Oberlin men is outlined. The order bars male citizens aged 18 to under 18? 88? from induction into regular and reserve armed forces without Selective Service Act provisions. Bona fide enlistment applications filed before the effective date may still be processed within 10 days post date.

Students Aid Jap American Evacuees This Christmas

Students will collect wrapped gifts for relocated Japanese American evacuee children, including books toys yarn and needles. Collections will be accepted at the dining halls by 6 pm Thursday. The effort is led by YWCA YMCA and the American Friends Service Committee among others.

Yeoman to Publish First Issue Next Week

Ralph Henry editor announces Yeoman College literary magazine will publish its first issue next Tuesday. The quarterly includes essays and poetry with two notable pieces by Anne Rees and Elmer Engstrom. The 48 page edition reflects paper shortages, and all submitted copy will be returned with critiques after publication.
