Four Directors Preside at May During Summer

Announced this week that Mrs Lela Pointer at Elmwood and Mrs Lu Duthie at Lord will become house directors when dormitories reopen August 21 for returning Conservatory women. AL students eat at May with Collage as part of the house directors and dieticians for summer. Several changes follow including Mrs Vera Locke, Mrs Belle Smith, Mrs Blanche Loomis, and Mrs Gertrude Metcalf shifting roles before September 1 when Opal Kerr returns as May's last house mother for the summer. Mrs Smith resumes dietician duties at Nancy Squire and later at Tank. Locke returns to May. Metcalf leaves Oberlin September 1 for Miami University.

Horner Decorates Private At Regimental Review

Marine Private Bernard J. Martin received a Distinguished Medal from Commander Ralph Horner at a V-12 regimental review on August 11. The award cites his heroic actions on Iwo Jima, where he helped extinguish a fire from an exploding mortar ammunition dump, saving lives and material despite grave danger. He later joined the Navy College Training Programs after returning stateside.

Students see no peace as poll predicts future war

A campus poll taken less than two weeks after the current war ends shows two thirds of students expect another large scale conflict. About half doubt it would involve Russia, yet most think peers foresee a Russia confrontation. Most predict peace lasting five to 100 years, centering on 20 to 30 years. Conservatory of Music Opens Short Eight Week Term

The Conservatory of Music begins an eight week term Tuesday with 83 women and 12 men returning. Enrollment includes 16 undergraduates 19 special students one graduate student and five returning veterans. Final day for registration is Monday. Lord and Elmswood to house the new con.

Second Eight Weeks Brings Replacements For Ten Professors

With the second eight weeks starting, ten returning professors will teach. The roster includes Ralph H. Singleton and Warren Taylor in English, Ruth M. Lampson, Edward Fiess, Frances I. Harland in Romance Languages, Hermann H. Thornton, F. Easton Carr in Mathematics and Astronomy, Paul Walter in Sociology, and Luke B. Steiner in Chemistry. Beginning August 3.

Upper's Quartet Battles Bugs At Sunday Sing

The Weekenders crowd will gather Sunday night to join a community sing led by Upper's Quartet at 8 pm in Finney hall Lorain County. The male quartet from Quad will perform old fashioned songs to chase mosquitoes and provide a respite from the heat and dales, with members Clayton Hickes Bryant Roa Jack Upper and Milt Andrews listed.
