Swiss Peace Proposal Reaches Washington via Bern and Stockholm

The U S State Department announced at 3 15 pm that Japanese peace proposals to the United States and China have been placed in the hands of Swiss authorities in Bern with Sweden signaling for Russia and Britain. Tokyo radio carried the message but NBC monitors warned it may be another peace feeler and not a definite surrender. Officials doubt whether the Potsdam terms cover the emperor Hirohito and say the invasion of the Pacific continues until Washington signals otherwise.
