Appointment committee recommends reappointing Jon Gray as instructor and coach for next year. Nichols will leave for medical study, with T Nelson Metcalf to replace him, forming a strong coaching team with Gray for track and baseball.
Dr Campbell pastor of City Temple London suffered a nervous breakdown after a Teft Oberlin engagement. He canceled all engagements and returned to England, resting at a private estate. His physician allows him to preach only one sermon on Sundays in London. Oberlin audience mourns missing the great man.
Reverend William H. Spence of Rutland Vermont will begin his pastorate at the First Congregational church of Overtin next Sunday. Spence studied at Oberlin and is a graduate of the Seminary. The church chose him to fill the vacancy created by Doctor Bradshaw’s resignation. officials say he will be a capable worker. A list of delinquent subscribers will be published after April 20.
A letter from Doctor D J Fleming in Lapore India praises Oberlin College’s efficiency bulletin on College adency. He cites the report as a basis for evaluating colleges in the region and mentions its recent issuance months ago.
The Library showcases rare autograph letters and printed materials relating to American history. Highlights include Lincoln and Washington autographs, a three page Lincoln manuscript, a Whittier tribute to Oberlin, and letters about Wisconsin natural history. Also present are Oberlin related items, a map of Oberlin parish in Germany, and documents from the Oberlin Colony founders.
A letter from the Detroit Conservatory of Music public school sector lauds Mr Gehrkens paper on the value of pedagogy to music supervision, calling it clear scholarly and among the convention’s hot papers. It also congratulates Oberlin Conservatory for its trained supervisors and strong standing in music education.
At a meeting Saturday evening Ober-Tin Civic Club members named five Senior class delegates to the Intercollegiate Civic League convention in New York and Washington this Thursday and Friday. Delegates Hopper Fenton Bliss and Bue will reach New York Thursday morning to attend a league meeting and banner event, then travel to Washington that night. They plan to spend Friday and Saturday in Washington and return Sunday.
Phi Delta dominated the junior oratorical contest at Sturges Hall Cal with Robert s taking first and R C White second. Judges Rev W S Chapman A H Lyfoyer and Charles Hammond presided Louis Stimson led the program. Davis Ford and Pettibene represented Alpha Zeta and Phi Kappa respectively.
The Oberlin College Glee Club received high praise from a Cleveland musical authority after a Wesleyan concert in Elyria at the Methdlin church. The critic named J. Wirkler 18 as peerless club director and lauded Oberlin’s director over peers from Harvard Yale Princeton and Cornell.
At the second Presbyterian Brotherhood convention of the Synod of Ohio held at the First Presbyterian church in Warren Ohio Professors Fiske and Hutchins gave addresses Fiske spoke on The Call of the Boy and Hutchins on The Bible and the Modern Man
After twenty six years as conductor, the New York Symphony marks a new era as Damrosch's orchestra backs the Musical Union for a May 13 festival program featuring Franck Beati tudes and a daytime symphony concert. Nine soloists to perform across both events.
In the latest issue the Review corrected its report on Doctor Jewitt’s injuries from the Lake accident. Dean Lightner of Aberdeen recently in Oberlin pronounced him improving. Jewitt is in Charity Hospital Cleveland with a seriously injured ankle, hoped to recover fully.
The geological department hosts a public exhibit in Rice Hall basement featuring wall maps atlases and textbooks used in European schools for geographical education. Loaned by the American Geographical Society the display shows test grades of school wall maps and atlases produced in Europe with free admission.
The Oberlin Summer Session committee appears to have decided against offering a music course titled Sight Seeing and Chorus Work. The dean likely thought the course would be too attractive for a coed national school during a summer session.

Associate Professor Frederick B. Stiven presented an organ recital in the Conservatory concert hall at 4 15 pm yesterday. The program included Bach Prelude and Fugue in G major, Bernard Suite, Scherso-Caprice, Andrews Introduction and Fugue, Bonnet Intermezzo, Krag Blert Benediction, Guilmant and Schumann pieces.
Harvard professor Jolie notes his work will end June 9 and he plans to be back in time for Commencement. He writes that he will resume duties after the break and attend the graduation ceremonies.
