The Oaks Club Directors Election Slates Announced

The Oaks Club faces a director and officer election with caucuses forming a slate. Religious and Benevolent Activities Highlight Oak Park

A large attending mothers’ meeting with a 500 turnout was noted. Mrs. Townsend read a paper. a Free Parliamentary drill meets Wednesdays at 10 am. The Boys’ club contributed 5 dollars to Armenian orphans. Various church groups held lunches for dozens of guests and prepared programs. A mission at St Catherine’s Church begins May 16 with Frs Durches and Lambert. The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society of Oak Park plans its annual Thank-offering on May 16 with Emma Mind Lacy speaking on China.

Harlem Village Board Meeting Bids Awarded and Appointments Made

Harlem village board met Saturday night May 8 with all members present. Minutes approved. A petition sought W E L Griffith as sewer and water engineer. Licenses for patent medicines requested by Kikapoo agent. Pool tables, police positions, and Belvidere street sidewalk petitions filed. Bills 281.26 paid. treasury 4315.56. Sidewalk ordinances discussed and passed for Harlem avenue west side. Appointments confirmed including Griffin as attorney and Griffith as engineer. Bid awarded to Griffith for village improvements. Meeting adjourned to May 10.

Melrose Park Trustees Appoint New Committees May 10 1897

The first regular meeting of Melrose Park's new board of trustees on May 10 1897 approved minutes, appointed committees led by Finance Storey Williams Debus and others, named village officers, and authorized payments and actions including hiring a special night policeman and approving bonds for the village marshal.

Maywood village board convened Thursday evening May 13 with President Bohlander appointing B A Dunlap as village attorney and several men to special police service.
