A roundup of residents moving homes, recoveries from la grippe, pneumonia and scarlet fever, visitors from Dubuque and Chicago, couples welcoming new births, and social events. Notables include A W Avery moving to 430 North Central, Miss Nevilla Close recovering, and the birth of a daughter to Rev C S Hoyt.
The Cicero Board of Trustees met March 24 1900 at 4 p m voting to approve cement walks and street light contracts while considering a veto over the Aurora Wheaton Chicago Railway ordinance. They referred several finance and improvement items to committees and ordered payroll warrants. President Lewis led the session with roll call of six members present.
At Kenilworth Hall a Republican meeting adopted resolutions by Co. S. Pellet praising Judge Orrin N. Carter of the County Court for agreeing to be the party’s candidate for governor. The group also endorsed O. D. Allen for county commissioner by unanimous vote.
A donation drive in Harlem raises over one hundred dollars to fund new feet for A Kropinsky. The funds were collected by Mrs. G J Charlton Mrs W S Hertick and Mrs R H Trimmingham. Kropinsky, once stranded in Wisconsin after pneumonia and frostbite led to amputation, is aided by timely community support.
The First Congregational Church ladies prepare an Easter market in Library Hall the week before Easter. A novel grocery department will offer items at regular market prices with commissions paid to the grocer securing orders. Florentine alabaster reproductions and a Chicago art dealer’s unique pictures will decorate the event, hailed as a standout Austin sale.
The Beethoven Club concert Tuesday evening at the Congregational Church drew praise for Mrs. Lola Gaily Chase’s singing and for pianists Miss Fannie Barnett and Miss Jessie Beach. Violinist A. L. Presses impressed the audience, directed by Miss Alice Dayton and Mr. C. F. Vogel. The club plans to attend the Apollo concert on April 26 as a group.
Mrs. Belle Watson Melville will direct an evening program at Euclid Avenue M E Church Oak Park corner Washington boulevard consisting of costume drills pantomimes and recitations on Thursday April 12 at 8 o clock p m General admission 20 cents Her name is a guaranty of the program's quality.
Last Monday at the Cottage Buffet in Harlem, John Ranke of 808 Marion Street Oak Park sustained serious injuries after a large Irishman named Mike Seele struck a pine held in Ranke's mouth. Seele was arrested by Harlem police.
The Thirty-fifth Ward Regular Democratic Club adopts a resolution dated March 22 calling on the Board of Election Commissioners to investigate violations by Geo H Bush of 5713 Ontario Street and Gus Hulska of 5431 Chicago Avenue who voted in both the Democratic March 9 primary and the Republican February 7 primary in the same Thirty-fifth Ward district. The secretary is to forward the report and seek action to prevent repeats.
A charming musicale at Mrs Herbert W Bartree's home 94 North Fifty second avenue Thursday evening March 22 supported the Fifty second Avenue Congregational Church building fund. Enjoyed by a large audience the program featured sopranos Mrs Lola Gailey Chace and Mrs P F Apfel basses Mr Carl Bronson and Mr Sehl pianists Mrs M M Blish Miss Lorraine Holden and Miss Jessie Safford and violinist Mr Frank Reavelle.
A petition from Oak Park residents asks Mr. Robert F Linn Jr to resume residence in Cicero and complete his four year term as town trustee. Signed by about 160 citizens the memorial was presented to Linn, who declined to move.
Mr. Harry B Lyford and family plan to move to New York. Mr Albert Budde and Mrs Budde left for Livingston Mont to visit friends. Mrs F J Smith is very ill with pneumonia with two nurses in attendance. The Woman's Benevolent Society calls an extra meeting at Mrs D W Kimballs. Robert Caughie leaves for a semi annual business trip through Iowa for Henderson Shoe Co. J H Howard will return May 1 with daughter Mrs Rayner from Portland Me. Mr and Mrs Carrol Wins McCullagh return from Detroit and stay with the McCullaghs at 282 North Lothard Ave. C K MacFadden and infant son visit Gen Eva Ind after St Augustine Fla. return to Gen Eva. C H Chase begins building a home on Ashland Ave. Master Robert Harper is sick with scarlet fever. Rev Johnson to occupy the Presbyterian pulpit next Sunday. Many people are sick with scarlet fever and whooping cough. Mrs Adams of Forest Ave called to Michigan for death in sister’s family. Ex Mayor T J McCarthy of Pueblo to stay summer at Madison Ave and John Street. At the Woman’s Club Mrs Happell read Versailles. next Tuesday all day department meeting with lunch. Young People’s Card Club beat Young Married People’s seven hundred forty three points. Miss Alice Griffin won the ladies prize. Mr Tony Hahn won the gentleman’s prize.

The newly organized quartet at the Presbyterian Church directed by Miss Ida Freeman includes soprano Miss Bessie Lay of Chicago contralto Ida Belle Freeman tenor Mr John Johanson and bass Mr Frank Collins with organist Mr Perris Bradly. They are preparing a large Easter program for morning and evening services.
Mrs. John D. Sherman of Chicago will address the Austin Woman's Club with a free exhibition drill in parliamentary law on Monday afternoon, April 2.
