Local society notes report visits illnesses travels and social events across Oak Park Rogers Park and nearby towns. engagements weddings and announcements mention Miss Alice Rowland Walter Gavin and Miss Margaret Whaples with numerous trips health updates and club activities at Masonic Temple Morrison's Hall Odd Fellows Hall and church gatherings.
The Cicero town trustees met March 31 1900 in regular session at 122 N Oak Park Ave. Minutes from March 24 and March 29 were approved. Various ordinances and special assessments were discussed including sewer and street improvements for Washington Blvd Oak Park Ave Austin Ave and other projects. Several measures were adopted by vote with trustees Hafner MacDonald Traill Attridge and Frink in support. Linn Utley absent.
The Austin W C T U met at Mrs Young’s residence to discuss engaging youth, especially girls, in temperance work. They promote an April 13 Hospital Week egg shower at Mrs Race’s home to donate clean linens to Francis Willard Hospital in Chicago, inviting new members and supporters.
The Oaks Club will close its season with Bertha S. Titus presenting Notes on Hawaii on Tuesday afternoon. Her social and musical leadership is well remembered from prior residence. A children’s party follows Thursday evening at 7 with attendance limited to members' children.
W S Demerest, pastor, leads the morning sermon on The Crucifixion the fourth in Lent. At 5 pm a missionary service by the C E and Woman's Union committees features Miss Wright on Glimpses of Armenian Life. The day includes baptism or new members, special music, and a Resurrection sermon with public invitation.
Fire at 3355 East avenue caused by an overheated furnace damaged the Waneger residence in Oak Park. Firefighters confined flames to the single building, with losses around 2500 dollars covered by insurance.
Mrs Bertha Titus will present an engaging talk on the new possessions in the Pacific Ocean before the Oaks Culture Club on Tuesday afternoon April 10. Her residence in the islands gives special qualification and her name is a strong guarantee this event will be the club’s greatest success.
Sunday School entertainment by church members directed by Mrs. Belle Watson Melville at Euclid Avenue M E Church Washington Boulevard on Thursday evening April 12 1900. Program includes drills pantomime recitations doors open 730 pm entertainment at 800 pm general admission 25 cents.
The Austin police station was draped on Wednesday morning to honor Dennis Harington a veteran Chicago officer and driver of the Austin patrol wagon. He died at 64 from paralysis at his home 65 South Fifty first court.
St Pauls choir presents a concert at Library Hall on Wednesday April 26 with Seeboeck pianist and artists Robert F Rohn basso George Pither tenor Kennard Barradell baritone Mrs C O Barras soprano and Mrs H L Geddes accompanist. Program announced later.
Austin plans an Easter Market in Library Hall on Tuesday afternoon and evening April 10. Over one hundred ladies prepared items from art works to aprons and pillows. Florentine alabaster reproductions, photographs, Easter eggs, novelties, candy, flowers, and an evening program by the Austin Mandolin Orchestra will enhance the event.
Mrs Murray of Keystone avenue is very low. Miss Field of Woodstock hosted Miss Cora Griffin. Mrs Griffin entertained twelve ladies. The Presbyterian Church held its annual meeting on Tuesday April 3 for officer elections. Mrs Frank Smith of Gale avenue hosted an afternoon for friends. Mrs R H Pierce returned from a three week trip to Washington DC and other eastern points. Professor Gould led an entertainment for the school library fundraiser. Mr C L Williams left on a six week business trip to New York City. Mrs Williams will visit her parents in Madison WI. Village caucus Friday March 30 nominated officers and library directors. The River Forest Woman's Club held its annual department meeting to plan next year's program and extend privileges to public school teachers. The Ladies Aid Society of the M E Church hosted a reception for the Presbyterian Ladies Aid in the M E Church parlors. The event committee included Mrs Fawcett, Mrs Belchman, Mrs Graves, and Mrs Elthorp. Sunday services at the M E Church lead into Passion Week with daily services except Saturday and a Good Friday love feast. Easter preparations include music and a sermon on the resurrection.
Oak Park painters and decorators Lowrey and Linper advertise services at 123 Lake Street offering interior and exterior painting, decorating, and finishing work for homes and small businesses.
Card of thanks to friends and neighbors who assisted during the illness and death of her late husband Mrs H B Utley extends heartfelt gratitude to all who helped.

Woman's Benevolent Society met at Mrs D W Kimball's home April 4 to finish garments for Washburn School Chicago for the needy.
