Editor J Penrose of the Butte Mining Journal was murdered in Butte Montana at about 1 am Wednesday. Lee James was hanged in Hickson Kentucky after admitting the murder of Thomas Garvin in November 1889. A large, noisy crowd witnessed the execution as he requested whisky while on the scaffold and his neck broke in the fall. He must stand trial for other crimes.
