Joseph G. Lamb Jr. a Philadelphia native formerly from Grant Avenue and now with the 103rd Motor Train writes from Atlantic City that Gen Pershing has urged discipline to avoid needless casualties. The regiment handles burke dead and wounded and supplies to the front. Lamb has served over two years including time at the Mexican border with the National Guard and recently moved to the motor service from the 110th Infantry.
A wartime letter from a U S serviceman describes a Scarborough visit with two civilian plasterers and their Yorkshire dinner. He notes English speech quirks, praises plastering work, and mentions several acquaintances in military and naval service in New Jersey and nearby towns.

The committee notes this season is ideal and hopes Nutley will respond generously so next spring the camps become spots of beauty.
Block dance on Park Driveway Thursday night drew 286 attendees and netted $101 for the Soldiers' Comfort Unit. Decorations included lanterns and flags. refreshments shifted from ice cream to hot dogs and coffee. Bertony, longtime Nutley A. catcher, returns from Camp Dixpin after recruitment and works at Newark war plants. Private Alpheus Geer of Battery A, 2d Field Artillery, in Aux Camp near Bordeaux for a special course with 25 brigade members to follow. Edwin C. Seer of Rockfield Avenue completed a special course at Maryland State College and now serves as Radio Instructor at West Point Kentucky Officers' Training Station.
Nugent Freeman of Lark Avenue reports learning carpentry after induction and is now near St. Augustine Florida. Thomas S. Woodruff, son of Prospect Street residents, transfers from Fanillac France to East Leigh England. James Woodruff moves from Paducah to Powhatan in transport service. Miss Theone Brauer of Nutley Avenue joins Red Cross in New York. Miss Isabel Warden of North Road sails for France as base hospital aide. Melvin Bross of the USS Nervus spends Sunday with relatives on William Street.
The Woman's Council of National Defense recommends brassards worn by relatives of soldiers and sailors who die in service. The President approves. The Red Cross or Council will make and distribute these fabric armbands at no charge to widows and parents and at cost to other relatives. The brassard is a black broadcloth band three inches wide with a star on the left arm. Local AR C Chapter will supply them via Home Service.
The County Tax Board fixed a tax rate of 2.27, one point lower than last year, despite increased town expenses. Belleville faces a rate increase unlike Nutley, with the highest rise among ratified municipalities.
Joseph McDonough, Nutley district draft board clerk, sends a letter to Town Clerk Simon Blum praising Nutley for its complete and efficient registration efforts.
