Supt Beachler announces the Nutley public schools will open Monday September 13 1915 with 1st day schedules. Grades 7-12 report to Park School at 8 30 pm. primary and intermediate report at 1 am. kindergarten opens to four-year-olds. all departments begin regular work from day one.
A ten year old Belleville boy, Alvin Kierstead of 204 Passaic Avenue, was run over by a wagon wheel while riding with his father between Nutley and Passaic on Saturday morning. He died soon after at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic. The wheel rolled over his stomach and caused fatal injuries.
George Rebentisch, former proprietor of the American House on Chestnut Street, was evicted by writ issued by Recorder James M Post after Ludwig Griasch won a $240 rent judgment. Supreme Court Justice Swayze affirmed the local ruling. Rebentisch seeks an injunction and liquor license litigation continues with Domenic Ciccone.
Rev. Roderick C. Jackson leaves ministry to serve as a lieutenant in the Canadian contribution to the English Army. He wrote the church consistory to announce the change. Jackson recently accepted a local pulpit call and was married, planning to bring his bride.
Emma Campbell of 461 River Road fell from an upper story window last Saturday. She sustained facial bruises and internal injuries with the extent not disclosed.
The report outlines districts by street lines from Lincoln District to Park District and notes transfers when overcrowding occurs. Attendance rose from 1,145 in 1911 to 1,603 in 1915, a 40 percent gain, with 1,799 different pupils and an average yearly attendance of 91 percent. Sixty teachers are employed this year, slight changes from last year.
Chief Wright Sutcliffe says Nutley is improving as August arrests fell to twenty three, well below the normal forty plus. He credits preventive work and steady declines in court referrals, noting few disorderly conduct cases and minimal vagrants, reflecting respect for the police.
Teresa McEligot of Hillside Avenue was missing five days after leaving home Monday morning. Her movements led to Newark where she was last seen near Pennsylvania Station. A family alert and police assistance led to her location in Newark and her return home she offered no explanation for the departure.
Miss Hilda Lobb daughter of Mr and Mrs John Lobb formerly of this town married Henry J Hearn of Paterson at Preakness Reformed Church Tuesday evening. The St Marks Paterson choir sang O Perfect Love. Bridal party wore colored gowns and carried roses and tea roses. A Grange Hall reception followed with guests from Nutley Passaic Paterson Haledon and Preakness. The couple will reside in Paterson after a wedding trip.
Miss Winifred Kingsley of Whit Ford Avenue and her nephew J Kingsley Martell have returned after spending two weeks at North Reading Massachusetts.
Charles de Lukasevics of this town answers his wife's suit for limited divorce by admitting a few minor claims while denying most allegations. He concedes incidents such as dropping a bottle on the floor, tearing a gown with his foot, and breaking glasses, cites mental unbalance due to his wife, and offers a differing version of a New York restaurant incident and the chauffeur’s actions surrounding their arrest.
William S. Wallace of Franklin avenue runs as a No Boss faction candidate for the Board of Freeholders and Joseph Mutch of Prospect street is listed among Wilson League nominees for the Assembly.
About 300 persons gathered at the Delawanna Improvement Association and Acquackanonk Fire Company No 8 fire headquarters on Delawanna avenue last Friday evening for an old fashioned Chowder event. The hall was decorated with cornstalks and grasses and the musicians sat behind corn shocks with Japanese lanterns overhead as plans finalize for Labor Day chowder.
Mr and Mrs Edward Dillon of Highfield Dance entertained guests at dinner last Saturday, then took them to a Newark theatre. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Dean Welch, Mr and Mrs Frederick Norton, Mr and Mrs William Saxton, Mrs Francis Xe Bennet, and Alexander Carleton. Mrs Dillon had returned from Quimby Maine the previous Saturday where she visited her daughter Mrs John J Leidy.
The Connolly building at Highfield Lane and Passaic Avenue hosts the local Christian Science Society reading room now ready for use. It will be open Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 5 PM.
Miss Jennie E Moxley held an informal dance at her High street residence last Saturday evening. Attendees included Miss Ruth Mc Caw of New York City Guasie LaForge Edith Illiffe Marjorie Hey den and Harry Hulse of Marmaroneck Nell Van Riper Richard Booth Mitton Ayres and Benjamin Bruskin.
A fundraiser on the Field Club grounds on September 138 features an afternoon and evening entertainment to benefit the French Wounded Emergency Fund. Committee chair Miss Sarah M. Hay leads the organization with members Miss Elizabeth Nairn and several widley named society figures including Mrs. Edger Sargeant Mrs. Emil Tauchert Mrs. Francis J. Bennett Mrs. Alfred V. Seaman Jr. and Mrs. Edward Dillon.
John Lambert of 179 Prospect Street survived a gas stove leak when an open window near his bed allowed fresh air to dilute the fumes. Dr. Albert F. Jackson revived him after two hours of work. Lambert rested at St. Marys Hospital Pasenje and later resumed daily life. Lambert, employed by Nutley Realty Company, was staying with Mr and Mrs David Nash.
The Field Way of the New Jersey State Experiment Station and State Board of Agriculture holds the event at the State College of Agriculture Farm in New Brunswick on Thursday September 9. President Demarest of Rutgers College and Joseph Frelinghuysen of the State Board of Agriculture speak in the forenoon. The afternoon features Experimentation work talks and farm inspection with a caterer on site.
Miss Lila Garrabrant hosted a farewell at her Frankton avenue home for Vernon Stillwell. Stillwell left yesterday for Chicago to join the May Stuart Theatrical Company as juvenile comedian, after graduating from the Olmstead Dramatic Art Studio in Newark. His family has recently moved to Chicago.
Mrs. Dean Welch staged a surprise bridge for her husband on Monday night. Guests included Anthony D. Usina, Benjamin Hurd, Emil Tauchert, Alfred V. Seaman, Emil Diebitsch, Marc Michael, Carroll Diamond, Charles B. Royce, James C. Bolger, Louis Thurston, Edgar Sergeant and Frederick H. Norton.
Board of Commissioners rejects tentative Wanaque Project contract citing no definite terms. Previous meetings saw support and opposition. plan aims to secure northern New Jersey water via the State Water Supply Commission. Current contract expires August 31 and is terminable by either party. City sources say Natley currently draws water from Montclair Water Company. Sidewalk curbs and gutter work on Rutgers Place Melrose Street and Ernest Street referred to Assessors for assessment. Aeromarine Company of America seeks electric light installation.
Agnes Campbell's Flying Squadron of suffrage boosters will arrive Nuat- Tey Monday morning to stage talks led by Mrs Lois Pratt Babcock and Mrs Campbell. Factory meetings at noon and house to house canvassing will fill the day as plans are finalized for a week of speeches. Nutley and Belleville are to receive similar activities from another squadron section.
John English a caterer has filed suit in East Orange District Court against Arthur M Slaughter to recover 102 75 for a bill incurred at his daughter's wedding on November 14 1912.
