Nutley Names Thomas S Brown Mayor for Two Years

Thomas S Brown was chosen Tuesday as Nutley Chief Executive for two years. Born in Belleville, he has long served on the Township Committee, led the Franklin Building and Loan Association for a decade, and headed the Yaotacuw Land Co as president. He chaired the Barney estate supervision and is active in Nutley Methodist Episcopal Church. Brown won by a 123 vote margin over Thomas J O Neil.

Nutley Votes Show GOP Loyalty Despite Narrow Dem Win

In Nutley the Democratic push to seize local offices yielded a narrow win for J Vernon Bouvier Jr in the Third Ward council race by one vote. Overall Republicans held mayoral and council seats across wards, with strong shows for Parker for Congress and the Assembly ticket, and voters rejected the County Park project. A ward three recount dispute emerged over results showing Bouvier 187 to Wasseler 136 amid 261 valid ballots.

Nutley Freeholder Reelected To County Board Of Freeholders

Abram Blum wins re election to the Nutley County Board of Freeholders by a large majority over Democrat J Harry Hutt. Blum has long ties to Nutley organizations and civic groups, including the Franklin Building and Loan Association and the Franklin Athletic Association. A Homeopathic Hospital Fair is planned in East Orange to aid Eysex County Hospital with sales, side shows and a restaurant. The Young Ladies Auxiliary leads organization efforts with officers named from East Orange Newark and Bloomfield.

Nutley Firemen Protest Repeated Brush Fires

Nutley Fire Department members protest frequent brush fires blamed on careless or malicious mischief. Sunday fires along the Third River near Henry Heller’s barn on Centre street and additional blazes on Prospect street and Nutley Terrace prompted alarms. Fire crews and neighborhood youths fought flames, preventing spread and costly damage.
