Social and Club Notes Brighten Local Life

The Fortnightly Club hosted a Shirtwaist Dance with about five dollars in attendance. Visitors and locals including C Moore and family moved into DePew House while others hosted gatherings at Ocean Grove and Mountain View avenue. Notables like Miss Louise Hayes and families such as the Morgans attended dinners and social events last week.

Wedding Announcement for Elizabeth Eagleson and Harry Otter

Otter Eagleson announces the coming wedding of Miss Elizabeth Eagleson and Harry Otter of Nutley to be held at the Eagleson home on Centre street Tuesday night June 1. Rev John Ogden Winner will officiate. A quiet ceremony follows a recent death in the bride’s family. The couple sails on the Campania for two months in England and Scotland, visiting the groom’s parents, then resides again at Centre street.

Passaic Man's Trial Postponed Over Silver Pitcher Theft

The trial of Harry Wilkie of Passaic, charged by M J Gorman of Washington avenue, with stealing a silver pitcher from the barroom, was postponed after the pitcher and other trinkets were returned. Chief Booth granted a delay until next Tuesday as Wilkie and a group of autoists visited Gorman’s place at six on Tuesday morning.

Memorial Day Observances in Nutley Schools

Nutley public schools held private Memorial Day observances rather than public ceremonies. Park School gymnasium hosted morning and afternoon programs with songs essays and recitations by Primary and Grammar grades. Yantacan School grades conducted exercises in their classrooms.

Winners At Bridge Whist

Kia Ora Whist Club met at Mrs. W J Kinsley residence on Thursday. Four tables played with prizes awarded to Mrs B Van DeWater first, Mrs J C Gothwaite second, Mrs Bond Stow third, Mrs F E Marquardt fourth, and Mrs E Austin Snyder fifth. Refreshments were served.

Miss Alice O'Neil of Brookfield Avenue graduates at Miss Townsend's private school in Newark. Closing exercises are set for June 7 in the Auditorium of the Feddie Memorial Church.

Friday Afternoon Club Outing Tours Morristown Visit

The Friday Afternoon Club conducted its annual excursion in a sightseeing automobile yesterday afternoon. The group visited Washington's headquarters at Morristown and returned to base about 7 p.m.

Nutley Pupils Exhibit Noted Artwork and Shop Work

An exhibition of Nutley school pupils from the 61st grade through High School showcased posters water color and charcoal art, raffia weaving, sewing, whirling, and about 100 high school shop pieces. Miss Edith L Nichols directed drawing and raffia with plans to expand the program next year and add Domestic Science in the Falk term.

Nutley group explores Lake Hopatcong by motor boat

A jovial Nutley party led by Councilman Daniel DeVries and members Thomas Nichols Jr and 3d, John Nichols, W. B. Bell, Frank Zimmerman, and Thomas Nichols III, traveled by Morris canal to Lake Hopatcong last Sunday. After fearsome adventures and humorous episodes they returned home Sunday night.

Former Nutley Pastor Goes Abroad

Rev. Oscar G. Helming, formerly of St. Paul’s Congregational Church in Nutley, sailed for a three months trip to Europe. He now leads the University Church of Chicago and his parish supports his rest with travel expenses.

Nutley Weekend Parade Marks Sunday Schools Anniversary

The Essex County Sunday School Association observes its tenth division with a Nutley parade on Saturday at 3 pm starting from Park School steps. About a thousand participants will march in order including the Vincent ME Church and Grace Church schools, with mothers joining at points to push baby carriages.
