Nutley residents travel to Atlantic Highlands and Philadelphia for visits. Memorial Day gatherings include guests from Newark Brooklyn Caldwell and Jersey City. A wedding announcement and church events are noted along with a Newark telephone area name change to Market.
After days awaiting Peter J. McGrath the deputy tax collector to finish delinquent personal and poll tax lists the task will be done by Chancemen Frank Zimmerman and Charles Gillman. Mayor Lux councilman de Vries and collector Van Riper met Tuesday to set the plan after McGrath left town two weeks ago after paying over collected money. A warrant was issued in East Orange for McGrath on assault and battery. Next week officials will appraise another batch of warrants to enforce tax payments.
The Woman's Public School Auxiliary holds its annual meeting at Park School on Monday afternoon June 7. Officers and committee reports will be reviewed and officers for the coming year elected.
Acquackanonk Township residents celebrate a new street lighting system achieved after prolonged effort led by the Taxpayers Association. Principal advocate Mr. A N Conover of Princeton Street was instrumental in securing the improvement.
A car carrying oil for street sprinkling has arrived at West Nutley station. The tank holds enough oil to cover one mile and a quarter of roadway, with more requested by residents. The Street Committee plans to begin sprinkling on Monday using the town sprinkler.
A local ice seller urges customers to order ice now before the rush. They advertise pure water ice and promise delivery by wagon after a phone call or letter.
Local feed warehouse promotes stock of hay oats corn meal cracked corn and grain for chickens and pigeons. Prices are high but customers are assured value for money and quality feed for livestock and poultry.
The Mason Materials department emphasizes fast service and right prices for the public. It invites consults on building materials for those planning construction and emphasizes customer satisfaction.
Town Council held an unofficial session on Wednesday night to review the upcoming tax budget. Officials project a 200 levy driven by higher school and county taxes, while town spending falls slightly. Assessor Brown’s valuation list will be finalized next fall, with total valuations set around 4.25 billion.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Vincent Methodist Episcopal Church will host a Dutch Supper on Saturday June 12. Rides will be offered from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Supper serves from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The Essex County Sunday School Association plans a parade review and athletic meet this afternoon with over 1,000 expected in line. The event will start from 2 p.m. at various church assembles and conclude at a field on Chestnut Street, weather permitting. church bells may ring at 2 p.m. if conditions allow.
Grace Church hosts confirmation Sunday evening at 8 o clock with Bishop Edwin Lines of New ark presiding over a class of twelve. The afternoon at 3 o clock features the Sunday School closing exercises.
At Nutley Improvement Society’s monthly meeting in Park Hall, members urged a town campaign to curb Fourth of July dangers by banning cannons top pistols and fireworks. They also noted treasurer’s good report and discussed street rail stations tree care vandalism school grounds and cooperation with the Board of Education.
