Nutley Board of Commissioners held a June 2 1919 meeting discussing a petition by 33 Centre street residents for coal oil on the street and sewer installation challenges amid street construction. They approved sidewalks, water mains, police and fire department measures, issued permits, and considered bids and ordinance readings.
The June 24 1919 Nutley board session notes a petition by 11 Bloomfield avenue residents to sprinkle the street was referred to the Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements. Other items include liquor dealer sureties confirmed, revenues of 41812 collected, health officer report for week ending June 23 1910, six month town physician report, and bills totaling 44120.52 for general, plus 1042.71 Health and Safety and 816.65 Public Works. A request from C Kocot for a cann ing factory on Hill Farm Harrison street is discussed with mayor approval contingent on permits. Building and Health Departments to coordinate inspections. The board resolves to prohibit sale of liquor to nonlicensed persons and to permit license holders to surrender with license refunds.
A series of measures pass second readings and referrals including a sidewalk project on Vreeland avenue north of Hillside, a six inch water main on Alexander avenue to Kingsland road, and issuance of temporary improvement notes. Multiple communications cover road dust, tree commission elections, tax exemptions, fireworks permits, and drainage work.
An ordinance sections an agreement between the Town of Nutley and Essex County to execute a contract for street work. The plan covers Nutley Avenue from Washington to River Road and Centre Street segments from Washington to Franklin and Franklin to Bloomfield, with 10 percent of costs assessed to Nutley and the balance borne by the county. Town Clerk Eagleas Wemear signs.
