The drive for War Savings Stamps yielded 1,049 in pledges and cash sales this week with totals of 1,662.36 and campaign goals for June at 8,200.15. Post Office and Schools led contributions while committees urge pledges to join societies for solid footing.
A telegram to Abraham Bruskin of Franklin Avenue confirms Corporal Julius Bruskin, eighteen, was wounded in action in France on June 9. Bruskin joined in April 1917, served in Company Engineers then the 1st U S Engineers. No casualty list mention. Another local, George Connolly of Chestnut Place, has no further update.
A local event titled dance for the benefit of ekgeens Comfort Unit is planned for Thursday at the school premises. Proceeds support the unit and community members are invited to attend for entertainment and fundraising.
A Newark Normal School graduate is Bernice Louise Stevens daughter of Mr and Mrs W M Stevens. A surprise reception was held for her at 11 Memphis Avenue with guests from Nutley Orange Bloomfield and Rutherford. The evening featured blue and white decorations a large graduation cake and musical solos and a bag from the Hawaiian Islands as a gift.
Henry H. Dudley of 142 Church Street received a verdict in Orange District Court in a case brought by Ludwig Roumann Company of Newark for nonpayment on furniture installments. Dudley claimed a $5 payment. the collector who paid was testified for the defense. Frederick A. Heisley represented Dudley.
Charles G. Zehner, proprietor, announces a new bakery and confectionery beside his Nutley store at 228 Franklin Avenue. Opening on Thursday July 11 will feature bread, cakes, pastry, ice cream and candies. Your patronage is invited.
Local Nutley unit excels in Passaic parade but lacks a flag and clear identity. Mayor notes pride in the Nutley Battalion yet urges a named insignia for proper recognition by spectators and officials.
Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night, following Mayor Diebitsch's recommendation, approved cost reductions. Police reported thirty arrests and $244 in fines and licenses collected. Health Officer Huttenloch noted six cases of whooping cough and one of diphtheria. Essex street paving and concrete curb and gutter were adopted. A six inch water main on Park avenue from Humbert street to River road passed to final reading.
At a Town Hall hearing Mayor Diebitech and about twenty residents favor patching Franklin Avenue for the next year or two. They want concrete or asphalt on both sides with storm drains, while state highway and Public Service delays on a final decision and track clearance.

Bennett and P. A. Prior. A card party is set for Meader Road clubhouse on the nineteenth at 2:16 PM.
