Raymond Van Winkle 25, of Miller Street Newark and Nutley, aboard the Old Dominion liner Monroe when she sank off Norfolk, is reported safe and en route home. His family learned by long distance message, and neighbors cheered as the news spread, ending a day of anxiety.

Elks Initiate Four Members at Nutley Lodge

Domestic Science Class Delivers Nourishing Desserts Lesson

A large crowd attended the Domestic Science Class last Friday. At 3.15 the session opened at the club house with Miss Stryker giving an instructive talk on food values. The group moved to the Park School for dessert demonstrations and discussed simple nourishing options. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday February 6.

Girl recounts attack by stranger on Highfield Lane

Fourteen year old Misa Reiweiser told police a man grabbed her on the way home to Washington and Notley avenues near nine o clock last night. She cried out to a passing car but it did not hear her. The assailant fled and she ran to Frank B. Carland’s house where officers were alerted. Sergeant Jameson searched the area but found no trace. The girl could not describe the attacker.

Aging Nutley Woman Dies After Burns

Mrs. Mary Weed, 72, died Tuesday after living more than a week with a third of her body burned. She was burned by an overturned oil stove at her home on Orchard Street Nutley Terrace and was moved to St Mary's Hospital Passaic. Surviving daughters are Mrs James Rowan Mrs James Snyder and Mrs Dehigreen. Funeral held at St Claire's Mission Dela Wanna with Father Anthony officiating. Interment at Lyndhurst.
