Conrad Ray and family returned to their Nutley avenue home in Brooklyn to find illuminating gas flooding the house from a broken cellar meter. Investigators found the electric meter damaged as well. The intruder entered through the cellar window, ransacked the place, and exited via the back door. Only vents of the gas meter were damaged. furniture and bric-a-brac were moved. Public Service Superintendent Tambour was notified and had the gas shut off.
A fifteen ton boulder was moved into final position on Wednesday to flank the main approach to the Park School. An eight-horse hauled truck carried it from Kingsland street to its site. A second rock from the Mayo property on East Passaic avenue near High street will arrive soon to complete the pair. The Woman's Public School Auxiliary of Nutley will open a Nutley branch of the Penny Provident Fund of New York around February. The Fire Committee awarded a contract to The Fabric Hose Manufacturing Company of New York City for 1,000 feet of hose after six bids with five samples. Delivery is immediate to replace unfit hose. A site for a West Nutley Hose Co firehouse was discussed with a committee to inspect proposed locations.
The Second Ward Association met to oppose raises for town officials and to back T. S. Brown as assessor. Members urged restoring former salaries, argued for prudence in taxation, and passed a resolution to oppose general increases while supporting Brown and restoring council pay to prior levels. Three members did not vote.
