Nutley introduces a new telephone fire alarm system to notify residents whether school will be closed on stormy days. The plan uses two bell strokes and two whistle blasts at set times to indicate morning or afternoon sessions, with tests avoided during school hours.
Nutley led Hackensack 10 to 2 after the first half of a girls basketball game when the auditorium lights failed and darkness ended play. Anna Donaldson played well for Nutley as the team prepared to face Montclair High School on February 4.
The town Legal Committee and an extra commission will meet in Council Chambers to finish a draft Building Code. The code aims to ban shacks and unsafe structures and require contractors to uphold standards. It may be presented to the Town Council at the next meeting on the seventh inst.
Several victims of hair breadth escapes on High Street reported to town authorities. Coasting especially bobbing was ordered stopped on that thoroughfare. Chanceman Thomas Ritchie was told to keep the hill clear for wagons and pedestrians early in the week. The ban applies only to High Street as no other streets prompted complaints.
Panic followed the discovery of a flashing broken primary electric light wire on Satterthwaite avenue and North Road. Residents called the Public Service office, a watchman was posted, and repair crews soon secured and taunted the line. No injuries were reported.
The Holy Name Society of St Mary's Church held its annual meeting and elected officers. Henry A Connolly was named President, John Smith Vice President, and Welter Stager Secretary. A committee was formed to reopen the club house and hire an athletic instructor for gymnasium, baseball, and tennis. The clubhouse will be open at all times with an extra fee for access, and the committee will meet Sunday afternoon.
Nutley fire department teams from Yantacan Engine Company, plus other fre companies, start a bowling tournament at Central alleys on Monday night. Lars J. Peterson, alley proprietor, will award a trumpet to the winning team. Last winter the department members carried the prize, a silver trumpet.
The Old Guard of Feuerbach alleys meets a Newark Olympic Club team tonight at Central Hotel alleys with James Wylie as captain. Nutley bowlers listed include John Howe captain Abram Blom H Fred Banta Martin Crosby and others. a banquet will follow the contest.
A Nuttey Sun letter from Lambertville New Jersey criticizes the road committee for plowing a path from Kingsland road to the depot via Hillside Avenue. The writer demands mayoral discipline for the driver and questions treatment of outlying districts while calling for fair street sanitation and direct access to the depot. The complaint accuses mismanagement and inequity in public works.

Mrs Emma BR Yarrow mother of Jabez T Yarrow of Franklin Avenue died in Belleville on Monday. Funeral services were held at Verona Congregational Church on Thursday with interment in Mt Hebron Cemetery.
A revised mail schedule took effect Thursday causing Newark mail to be forwarded at 11:50 am and Paterson mail to depart at a different early hour. Nutley now receives only three daily mails to Newark.
Falk Herman Germeck, a driver at Nuttley Livery Stables, suffered several severe bruises and a contused knee from a fall on ice yesterday afternoon on 00th Street. He was tended by Dr. A. F. Jackson and later taken to his Chestnut Street home.
