Nutley faces a deep coal shortage with little stock in town and no clear arrivals. Town Clerk Simon Blum reports 13.5 tons sold this week plus 1.5 tons for Town Hall, while Nutley Coal & Supply and Nutley Ice Company indicate minimal stock and uncertain car shipments.
The Charity Ball at Town Hall last Friday night raised 374 in net proceeds. Funds will go to support the Lard of the Seated Service Devean.
The Health Inspector reviewed town dairies and milk samples with good permits issued. Disease counts were measles ten diphtheria one whooping cough five tuberculosis uncertain. A leak on High Street near Bloomfield Avenue was repaired during the week. Final sidewalk payment made to Spats for the south High Street work. Meeting held in Tax Clerk’s office due to crowding in the Commission Chamber.
Donations from Mrs A B Sturges Mrs Marion Mustoe Mrs Harry Soutar Mrs A Broskin and others triggered a transfer of the unit's regular Friday afternoon meetings to the home of Mrs John Hartshorne at Yantacaw Place where gatherings will be held indefinitely.

Government outlines include a 50 percent allotment rule and cheap life insurance funded by enlisted men’s pay.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports from Camp Sherman Ohio that six Clevelanders were named top bayonet exponents among non commissioned officers of the 81st Infantry led by Capt. Owen and Sergt. Perita of the British Army. Sergt Brown Kuster Heiner Deagan Olson and a fifth sergeant from Co E are selected to train Cleveland Infantry bayonet instructors for Col Williams. Sergt Brown son of Mr and Mrs B C Brown of Franklin avenue also scored 263 of 300 as rifle instructor.
A Newark horse died from exhaustion after a run on Franklin Avenue near Glendale Street. A German spy scare disrupted Nutley area early yesterday with two men spotted at Sonneborn plant, later arrested in Paterson for abuse and a Nutley desertion case led to detention of Mrs Babinski. Sergeant Jameson faced locker issues, and Joseph DiBell was fined for abusive conduct on a trolley.

John Reardon son of Mrs. James Dunbar Reardon Nutley avenue and Miss Genevieve Moore daughter of Mr and Mrs James P Moore Passaic were married at St Nicholas Church Passaic by Rev Father Maxwell. Bridesmaid was Elizabeth Reardon and Carl Height best man. The couple planned a New York theatre supper trip then a Washington visit before returning to Passaic where they will settle. Mr Reardon works for Rubberset Company Newark.
Miss Mildred Estelle Lohr daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Lohr Woodland avenue and Sergeant Richard A Daw son of Mrs Robert Daw Centre Street were married last Saturday at Grace Church Rectory Rev Douglas Matthews officiating The groom on two day furlough from Anniston returned to Camp after a wedding supper attended by relatives only Miss Lohr wore a traveling suit Attendant was her sister Misa Ethel A Lohr Best man was Joseph A Daw.
Miss Jeanette Noblett daughter of Mr and Mrs Stephen Noblett of Paterson avenue and Coorgs Eyers son of Mr and Mrs Frank W Eyers of Paterson avenue were married Monday night at St Clare's Church Delawanna. The ceremony was performed by Rev Father Theodore O F M rector of the church. The attendants were Miss Margaret Hannan and David Hawkins. The couple are in Keyport where Mr Eyers is employed.
Vincent churches will not hold services tomorrow night at their buildings. Instead a joint program will feature war posters on display and Prohibition songs performed by visiting groups.

John Hart of Acquackanonk Township Nutley area died Saturday at Passaic General Hospital from age related illness aged eighty. He worked as geographer and draftsman before moving to Nutley where he sold wine and crafted cartographic works. Funeral services were held Wednesday from his son Liam Hart’s home with burial by Liam Stirratt Undertaker. Surviving in addition to his son are Archie and another son in News limits.
Nutley Lodge of Masons plans to display a service flag bearing stars for enlisted men including E Stetson Broadbent, Gould, Liam E., M Raymond Slaughter, and Winkle. The banner will be hung on a cord to show their wartime service.
