No. 1, Avondale Hose Co. masquerade, Town Council, and Fortify club event.

Charity Talk by Rev Francis A Foy at Kempton Council

On Monday evening after regular business the Kempton Council will hear Rev Francis A Foy rector of St Marys Church speak on Charity. Orator Howlinge will lead the entertainment and a substantial array of refreshments will be served. Members are urged to attend and bring a friend.

Former Mayor Brown Appointed Nutley Assessor

Nutley Town Council appointed former Mayor Thomas 5. Brown as Assessor until next Fall following Henry M. Whitfield's resignation. The council also approved Peter J. McGrath as deputy to collect unpaid taxes. A resolution endorsing Assembly Bill 35 for home rule in taxation was adopted, urging state lawmakers to grant municipalities tax exemptions.

Story Hour Delights Park School Children With Animal Tales

Miss Katherine C. Lambert led a Tuesday Story Hour in the Park School Library for nearly one hundred young readers. Tales included The Alligator and the Jackal The Little Red Hen and Jack Rabbit with volunteers from the Woman's Public School Auxiliary and Nuttey school teachers assisting. Miss Ackley will lead next week while Miss Howell is unavailable.

Dramatic Club to Stage Pinero Comedy at Town Hall

The Nutley Dramatic Club presents Arthur Wing Pinero's Sweet Lavender at Town Hall Auditorium on Tuesday night February 16. The club aims for its strongest effort yet and its past successes promise an excellent production. Proceeds benefit the Royal Arcanum chapter in the Kempton Council benefit.

Gentleman's Night Marked Nut ley Friday Afternoon Club Event

The Nutley Friday Afternoon Club hosted its annual Gentleman's Night on January 29 at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Kinsley. Guests wore McKinley coronations. the program featured a play titled A Business Meeting by various club members, piano pieces by Miss Whitbeck, and recitations. Fifty attendees enjoyed Sunny Crest hospitality. The next meeting moves to February 10 at Mrs. A. B. Meredith’s home with a Lincoln anniversary program planned.

Lincoln Day Celebration Plans at Nutley Public Schools

The Nutley public schools prepare a Lincoln Day program at Park School auditorium with addresses by Everett P. Wheeler and G H Philhower. Douglas Pierson will recite the Gettysburg Address, plus a children’s chorus. A campus unveiling near the stone and tablet presentation by a pupil are planned with Henry Libby presenting the tablet.

Reverend Dr John F Dodd Dies at 72 After 28 Years as Secretary

The Rev Dr John F Dodd longtime secretary of the Newark Methodist Conference died in Phillipsburg New Jersey at seventy two after weeks of illness. Born in Nutley New Jersey he began life as a journeyman carpenter before entering religious work and pursuing theology.

Officers Installed by Morris Branch LGC Leaders

The Morris Branch of the LGC installed officers on Thursday at St. Marys Church led by B.A. Mrs. M J Freeman became president and Mrs. J Day as vice president. Financial secretary was Mrs M J Gorman and recording secretary Mrs H Hochstrasser. Inside guard was Mrs M Couroy and outside guard Mrs Mary with marshal Mrs D Swanson. Trustees named Mrs Margaret Nugent Miss Stella Baker and Miss Ida Lipp. Rev F A Foy serves as spiritual advisor. A social hour followed the ceremony.

Miss Doothy Palmer's dancing class staged a Snow Flake Party Wednesday night at Masonic Hall. The social event featured a convincing snow storm display that proved one of the most attractive and pleasing elements of the evening.

Electric chair for Bertchey sentenced in county case

Adolph Bertchey formerly of Nutley was found guilty of first degree murder for the December Lakewood killing of Frank Jankowski. He received the death sentence to be carried out in the electric chair during the week beginning March 13, with a double guard to remain until transfer to Trenton.
