The corner stone of the new North Belleville Methodist Church will be laid at 3 p m with a distinguished clergymen and laymen gathering. Bishop Thomas B Neely will preside and deliver the principal address assisted by Rev George W Smith and others. The 119 by 63 foot building features an 82 foot tower and a 400 seat auditorium expandable to 800 with the Sunday school room and balcony, and will include a basement kitchen. The old church marker from 1830 will be preserved within the new edifice, and the public is invited.
Verona Bertchey mother of Adolph Bertchey the Nutley burglar awaiting execution in Trenton for the Lakewood bartender killing, died in Brooklyn Sunday. She rarely knew her son’s crimes, learned the truth at Tom’s River trial, and died after learning the appeal for a new trial would fail.
The Nutley High School girls basketball team defeated Passaic High School 22 to 5 in an afternoon game at the Park School Auditorium.
Nutley Board of Education will meet Monday night the 5th to organize and elect a president. Speculation centers on St John Goodrich Hill ONeil or Mrs St John as likely candidates amid discussion of possible ties and factional support. The district clerk position, July 1, remains, and the president will appoint standing committees after organization.
County bridges and streams in the town were inspected last Saturday by County Engineer Owens County Collector R W Booth and Freeholder John Howe. The findings will guide annual recommendations to the county Board of Freeholders.

Two Nutley related bills received Governor Forts signature and became law. One, by the Legal Committee and Assemblyman John F Clark, allows the town government to legally complete work authorized by the former Township Committee. The other, also by Clark, authorizes the county to issue more bonds to acquire park property and locate a public park in Nutley funded by county money under the County Park Commission.
Bank officials have completed purchase of the Elm and Chestnut streets plot with 125 feet frontage on Elm and 100 feet on Chestnut. Plans for a new building are in preparation and expected to be submitted for approval soon. The proposed structure will cost between 10000 and 15000 dollars and will be a model building in every respect.
The Friday Afternoon Club gathered yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Louis F. Rhoades on Prospect Street. Miss Alice J. Bickers read Edgar Allan Poe's story The Gold Bug to attendees.
Deputy Tax Collector Peter J. McGrath pressed delinquent collections as residents debated town tax and poll bills. A large crowd visited the Collector Van Riper at Town Hall on Tuesday night and settled the town’s claim in full.
John Bieher, 52, of Kingsland Street and Azel Avenue, died Thursday morning after a lengthy illness. Funeral arrangements were to be announced, with services to be held at his home at noon and conducted by a rector, burial in Glen Ridge Cemetery. The family noted the death occurred after a period of illness in a solemn home setting.
