Jury Finds Not Insane Candace Messler. Adopts Share Ruling

A probate court jury in Houston ruled Candace Messler not insane as argued by disinherited adopted sons. The five-man one-woman panel awarded Daniel Mossler and Christopher Mossler a share of the late heiress's estate, finding an amendment from 1973 corrected an earlier removal from the 1968 will.

Akron Police Union Accepts City Offer After Standoff

The Fraternal Order of Police in Akron votes 219 to 183 to accept an 8 percent raise this year and 7 percent next year plus improved fringe benefits, endinga dispute over contract terms amid threats of police actions. Congress approves a bill extending veterans health benefits to those with less than honorable discharges, sending it to President Carter.

House OKs one year pension boost for retiring lawmakers

The House approved a plan to increase retirement pay for members retiring with 32 years of service by 3426 dollars a year, using current salary for pension calculation rather than the three year average. The measure awaits Senate approval.

At a campus press conference the Krause and Scheuer families said Kent State should not name a proposed gymnasium for the four students killed in 1970, calling the university’s actions over seven years a source of ongoing misery.

Car Crashes Injure Five In Regional Accidents

A brother and sister from Wellington were injured when their car struck a bridge edge near New London Township. Jacqueline Auble 17 and Leonard Auble 12 were taken to New London Hospital in fair condition. Wendy Auble 14 rode along without injuries. Separately Archie Parsons 50 and Mary Slanezka 55 were hurt in a two-vehicle crash at Ohio 601 and U S 20. Slanezka remains in fair condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital while Parsons was released. A westbound car on U S 260 near Olena injured Far Lawson 6F of Horle Ky who was taken to Fisher Titus. driver Robert Swiger 22 of New London cited for DUI. In another incident Dennis A Dreznicki 28 of Cleveland cited for DUI after hitting a road sign on U S 224 east of Willard.

Jury rules Norwalk Implement not liable for defective combine

A Sandusky farmer lost a civil suit against Norwalk Implement Co. over a used Oliver 6 000 tractor. The eight jurors found no purchase agreement or warranty violation and dismissed Davlin's demand for 4 900 in damages. Attorneys planned no definite appeal. Norwalk Implement was represented by Walter L. Hite.

Secretary Fired Over Coffee Duty At Waterloo District

Waterloo Iowa UPI Diana Becker 28 says she was fired Friday for refusing to make coffee for her boss. The district says coffee duty is part of the job and Becker contends it is not. She notes 31 office staff are required to brew coffee and she lacks training for such tasks.
