Ohio Governor Lausche said he turned down a group’s suggestion he become president of Ohio University, choosing to return to law after his term as congressman ends. He did not identify the group. Vernon Alden will leave OU next June.

The $99 627 resurfacing of Main Street in Norwalk will run alongside the completed State highways 61 and 601 projects. Expect lane restrictions and limited parking as Price Construction raises manholes, strengthens weak pavement, and applies a new asphalt concrete surface with a ten year expected longevity.
Armored units of the Mexican army occupied the National University campus in Mexico City, the main Olympic site, claiming the university was used for antisocial and possibly criminal acts by student strikers who had occupied buildings since July. The action prompted government justification despite the campus immunity by law.
Norwalk Alderman Allen Hakes announced eleven citizens to study city finances for a proposed one per cent income tax. Tenants include William Casselberry and Anthony Petrosino, with Rice of the state auditor's office and Petrosino an accountant among appointees. Hakes will not participate directly and plans a meeting with Service Director Morley Price to set the study in motion. The council tabled a related ordinance pending the committee report due Nov. 19.
State Finance Director Howard L. Collier stated no statewide income tax is necessary urging existing revenue sources will fund current programs. He noted local governments already levy income taxes and should not be overridden by the state. Since June 1965 municipal income tax use has risen with 144 cities and 60 villages now taxing.
The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. will pilot supermarket credit cards in six Columbus area stores in Ohio and West Virginia for at least a year. Cards allow up to 200 to 2000 dollars with 30 day validity and automatic renewal by mail. No store verification required. Users apply at the participating stores and receive cards free.
Four year old Lea Marshall, daughter of band director George Marshall, serves as the Norwalk High marching band mascot. She has appeared with the band at Pumpkin Show and football games in Lorain, with upcoming home game against Bucyrus.
Gifts from 33 countries highlighted the New London Rotary Club ladies night at the Elks Country Club in Norwalk. Volunteers organized gifts tied to each country, with items from England Puerto Rico Italy Belgium and more, presented to attendees after letters described the origins.
