United Press International reports Ohio educators and non academic workers walk off in Girard Gallia County and Fairhaven districts. About 6 000 students face unexpected summer break as protests continue. Mrs Harriet Motz wins 300000 lottery prize in Medina Ohio plans to pay bills.
UPI reports cold weather threatens corn belt maturity while Ohio corn progresses normally and rains restore soil moisture. In Georgia, Lester Maddox blamed his primary defeat to Watergate fallout as he conceded to George Busbee.
Washington UPI reports a request for 850000 dollars for Nixon’s pension and related costs faces intense resistance in Congress. Senator Joseph Montoya, chair of the appropriations subcommittee, calls the amount far too large while reviewing President Ford's proposal.
Wharton New Jersey UPI reports Army nurse Mary Lou Follett, 22, says she was denied a promotion for living with her boyfriend. She quit her job and criticizes Army life, calling for others to avoid enlistment and expressing relief to be out.

Marvin the Magnificent, an 11 year old chimp, ran wild at KYW in Philadelphia. He ripped papers, climbed desks, damaged ceiling tiles, and caused staff to evacuate before a tranquilizer and handcuffs ended the incident.
President Ford opens a pre summit meeting with 28 economists at the White House East Room to craft practical solutions to inflation and a stagnant economy. He warns there is no quick fix and urges unity among experts from academia business and labor.
Andy Wright a 13 year old from Norwalk Ohio underwent open heart surgery at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals to repair two holes in his heart. He left the hospital after five days and was home three days post op. He plans to try out for the seventh grade basketball team at Norwalk Junior High in mid October.
Julie Nixon Eisenhower says the former president remains secluded at his California home to avoid press attention while facing a looming legal threat. David Nixon, a law student, notes a possible future return to public life with speeches and books after the November elections. Watergate prosecutors consider charges against Nixon as he is subpoenaed to testify in the case.

Former governor James A. Rhodes says Governor Gilligan can raise pay for every certified teacher in Ohio by about $1000 this school year from surplus funds. He cites Gilligan finding 188.3 million dollars in surplus over recent months.
The Huron County Board of Health suspended H&S Lunch and News in Willard until owner Hobart E. Adams complies with regulations after five health inspections this year. The most recent on Aug. 7 found broken counter and refrigerator door, plus a defective light over the dishwashing sink. Deputy Health Commissioner Clarence Ellett said Adams ignored the board.
