Ohio to receive federal funds for conservation corps
Ohio will obtain at least 3.5 million dollars in initial federal aid to run a civilian conservation corps. House Speaker Vernal G. Riffe Jr. said the funding was confirmed in Washington by Interior and Agriculture officials. The Ohio Conservation Corps aims to create jobs for young adults through environmental reclamation.

Columbus businessman dies after tree falls on him
Thomas R. Benua, 55, was killed when a large tree toppled onto him during a round at Little Turtle Golf Course in Columbus. A gust snapped the tree as he retrieved a ball on the 17th fairway. He died at a hospital from head and chest injuries.
