Lake Erie loosens its grip on the skydive tragedy with nine bodies found, reducing missing to four. Early Friday another body was recovered and identification announced by the Red Cross as officials continued to seek the remaining victims.
Lt. Chester Rybaczyk 44 of the Toledo Fire Department rescue squad died from severe burns after becoming trapped in a $45,000 two alarm fire at a north Toledo tavern. He passed away at Riverside Hospital.
U.S. diplomats cautiously expect meaningful results from South Vietnam's Sunday general election even if only half of eligible voters cast ballots. The aim is a government with greater legitimacy and authority for the people, replacing the coup-era regime.
Fair weather continues tonight and Sunday with lows near 50 and a slight warmup Sunday. Friday temperatures reach 44 to 69 with humidity rising midday, and no precipitation expected. A marriage license application lists Walter M. Yates of Grandville and Etta W. Cornwell of Monroeville.

George Kirbawy, a fire parts dealer, lost in Norwalk Mayor's Court over a North West Street storage area. He faces a $10 fine plus $5 daily until abated, retroactive to July 13, with $365 due, suspended if nuisance ends by November 30. he also must pay court costs. He plans to open a used auto parts business and sell cars from the lot, with operations shifting to Route 61 as he complies.
Bishop John A. Donovan announces the transfer of Fr. Robert J. Drouillard to Norwalk St. Marys effective next Friday. He moves from Marblehead St. Joseph after serving in Crestline. Drouillard has been ordained for more than 12 years.
