Lake Erie loosens its grip on the skydive tragedy with nine bodies found, reducing missing to four. Early Friday another body was recovered and identification announced by the Red Cross as officials continued to seek the remaining victims.

Toledo firefighter dies after north side tavern blaze

Lt. Chester Rybaczyk 44 of the Toledo Fire Department rescue squad died from severe burns after becoming trapped in a $45,000 two alarm fire at a north Toledo tavern. He passed away at Riverside Hospital.

Record cold dampens Labor Day crowds at Norwalk beaches

In 1915 Norwalk saw the coldest September 2 on record at 38 degrees. This year the morns dipped near that mark with 44 degrees at Valley Beach Park and low swimmer counts. Beach operators Don Bauer and Leo Smith Jr report dropped business, though campers and reunions fill weekends. They note a prolonged springlike chill hurts Labor Day activity and that people avoid swimming below about 85 degrees.

Johnson says harmony in Vietnam policy despite rift reports

President Johnson told reporters in the Oval Office that civilian and military leaders are in closer agreement than ever despite criticism of Defense Secretary McNamara. He cited 300 of 350 bombing targets in North Vietnam as agreed and said final decisions remain his authority.

The festival runs through Labor Day with parades street dances and a flea market among events.

Kirbawy Plans Used Car Lot After Losing Case

George Kirbawy, a fire parts dealer, lost in Norwalk Mayor's Court over a North West Street storage area. He faces a $10 fine plus $5 daily until abated, retroactive to July 13, with $365 due, suspended if nuisance ends by November 30. he also must pay court costs. He plans to open a used auto parts business and sell cars from the lot, with operations shifting to Route 61 as he complies.
