President Ford announced John Sawhill's resignation and named Andrew E. Gibson to head the Federal Energy Administration. Secretary Rogers Morton stood nearby as Ford cited Rog Morton's push for a new federal energy administrator in a broad energy agency reorganization.

Jeb Stuart Magruder testifies that former Attorney General John Mitchell approved the Watergate plan to give him deniability. Magruder says Mitchell agreed after Liddy scaled back the scheme, and that June 17 arrests followed a faulty wiretap at Watergate.
The two of three men charged in the Oct 21 shooting of Norwalk Beverage Center manager Clayton Fries are bound over to common pleas with $10,000 bonds, while Lloyd Bumphus awaits custody for an aggravated robbery case. A November grand jury is likely. Bumphus may proceed without a preliminary hearing if custody cannot be gained.
