Black River tops Mapleton in Firelands Conference showdown
Black River defeated Mapleton 17-6 on the road to move into a tie for the league lead at 5-1 in conference play. Tim Hartong scored on a 61 yard drive early in the second period, and Chris Scheck's 35 yard interception return for a TD set the key margin. Mapleton added a late 2 yard score and Black River added a 26 yard field goal by Young.

Olcott rushed 135 yards on 22 carries and led the offense while Burras Schnell and Strimpfel added scoring plays as Western improved to 3 5 overall and 2 4 in FC. South Central fell to 2 6 and 0 6 in league play after a 6 0 halftime lead faded in the second half. Coach Gonter praised the turnaround after a rough first half.
