A house trailer owned by Harold Drury of Norwalk and rented by two Miller Construction Co. workers building the New London reservoir burned around 3 a.m. Firefighters could not save it. The workers, away for the weekend, had reported furnace trouble Friday afternoon.

Charles Woodward, former Norwalk clerk, paid 3 193.24 in fines and restitution after embezzling municipal funds. The payment canceled a contempt hearing and followed a no contest plea resulting in a 60 day jail term or equivalent probation, with three years of probation and restitution to the city. He had previously held posts from city income tax chief to clerk in the finance office and faced a three year probation.
Frank E. Shonkwiler 77 of Greenwich died Friday when his southbound car failed to stop at a junction and was struck by a grain truck. The driver William Balduff 21 from Ashland was treated and released. Burial and funeral plans announced by Heys Funeral Home.
