School Buses Break Load Limit On Two Bridges

In Huron County two district bus routes cross bridges with three and four ton limits. Officials say the bridges are too weak for loaded buses and were not notified of limits by County Engineer Urban Livengood Jr. The districts will reroute to avoid the bridges while repair funds are approved.

County Wins 57000 Bridge Grant For Huron County Roads

Huron County Highway Department won a 57000 federal grant to repair eight bridges on Greenwich Milan Town Line Road and Tiger Road. County will provide 24600 in matching funds and handle labor and equipment. Work on two weak bridges starts Nov 15 with completion by year end 1977.

Ohio fair dates kept nine days early despite protests

The Ohio Exposition Commission refused to shift the 1977 Ohio State Fair earlier, despite protests from county fairs and the Ohio Fair Managers Association. Allen County Fair representatives urged a change from the Aug 16–28 schedule due to conflicts. A Ford political ad pairing Playboy and Newsweek covers drew reactions from readers. The week’s lottery results included three-digit numbers 415 521 738 and six-digit 746255 with green as the winning color.

Mistrial Declared in Adamson Case over Pretrial Publicity

In Phoenix a mistrial was declared in the John Adamson murder trial due to prejudicial public comments by Maricopa County Attorney Donald Harris. The judge ordered a new trial by December 20 and removed Harris from the case, transferring control to the state attorney general. Special Prosecutor Schafer joined the defense in agreeing to the mistrial.

First Public Flu Clinics Next Week In Huron County

The Huron County Health Department will hold swine flu vaccine clinics from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the Huron County Administration Building. A supply of 2,500 doses arrived, with a prior expectation for next month. Clinics will use the large meeting room, 180 Milan Ave. A separate 300-dose shipment of bivalent vaccine exhausted at midweek clinics. a new shipment is expected next week with sessions on Wednesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons for adults 60 and older and those with chronic conditions.

Democrat Makes Bridges Issue In Engineer Race

In a county engineer contest incumbent Urban C. Livengood faces challenger Lawrence H. Heit of Norwalk on November 2. Heit argues bridges are deteriorating and promotes sandblasting. Livengood defends painting with brushes and cites cost and efficiency concerns.
