In New York Herbert Hoover, 90, remained in a fragile state with doctors warning the outlook is grave after a massive hemorrhage. He is described as unresponsive with bleeding ceased but toxins in the bloodstream from last Saturday’s loss.
Sheriff John Borgia criticized arrests in four vehicle train collisions near Willard amid heavy fog. He cited failing to stop within an assured clear distance and excessive speed, called crossings poorly lighted, and urged discretion by officers while pushing for mandatory reflectors on trains.
Norwalk police broke up a mass of female pickets at the Northern Ohio Telephone Co building at 10 a.m. under an unlawful congregating ordinance. One picket, Joanne Ruth Werner, 36, was arrested. a bond was posted and trial set. Union official John Arbogast claimed local action. No injuries reported.
Mayor Louis Frey ordered Norwalk Police to remove pickets from the Northern Ohio Telephone building if needed. The ordinance prohibits congregating on sidewalks or public grounds to obstruct passage or insult others, though the city solicitor said police could not break the picket line.
