Zero Population Growth warns that under current fertility and immigration patterns the U S population could rise by 107 million over the next five decades. The group cites more women of child bearing age and higher birth expectations, urging immigration limits and voluntary fertility reductions via family planning and contraceptives.
The Supreme Court lifted a temporary ban allowing Concorde test flights into New York's Kennedy Airport. Justice Marshall's order had blocked the jetliner at the request of the Port Authority while British Airways and Air France filed papers in a long pending case.
UPI reports evangelist Leroy Jenkins announced at a church rally in Columbus that he will run as an independent for governor in 1978. He says he cannot effect change within either major party after state actions forced his Holy Hill Cathedral in Delaware to close for building code violations.
Andre Thornton wife Gertrude and their two year old daughter Theresa die in a one car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset. Thornton and son Andre Jr. suffer minor injuries. Car skidded in a snow squall, struck a guardrail and rolled onto its roof.

Rowdy owned by Vernon Fennell Paola Kansas finished second and Jet owned by Lavon Lawson Montrose Arkansas finished third. The event carried no prize money but earned prestige and potential stud fee profits for Whitaker.
Norwalk residents confront a housing crisis after a Hamden engineering report finds 76 of 102 Bound Brook Estates homes at risk of collapse. Twenty three homes likely require relocation and new foundations costing about 20000 dollars per residence.
