No Tillage Method Cuts Pollution
Agriculture Department experts report that no tillage farming cuts soil erosion 65 to 95 percent by disturbing only 10 percent of the soil surface. The method, used on corn and soybeans, may expand to 40 to 50 percent of U.S. corn and soybean acreage in five years, saving farmers 8 to 14 dollars per acre in costs and enabling possible two crops a year in southern states.

Plan Calls For Classing Corn On Blight Dangers
The Agriculture Department backed a voluntary ASTA labeling plan for 1971 seed corn showing the percentage from Tcytoplasm breeding stock. About 80 percent of hybrid corn used this year came from T-cytoplasm stock, linked to blight susceptibility, while 21.1 percent of 1971 supplies were expected to be Non-T and 36.6 percent mixed T and Non-T. The labeling aims to aid buyers though federal law does not require it, and it will guide state seed-control programs for uniformity.
