City starts leaf collection Monday with trucks roaming the streets to gather leaves raked between curb and sidewalk. No schedule is set. pickups continue until all leaves are cleared. Residents may request mulch leaves via city hall, and the city will deliver if access allows.
Cincinnati labor leaders threaten boycotts and pickets in response to the Fraternal Order of Police plan to build a $140,000 Queen City lodge with non union labor. Southwestern Ohio Construction Co. says work will wait until the dispute is settled as construction is two days behind.
Detroit report shows buyers resisting $400 plus price increases on new cars. October early sales fell 15.5 percent, the largest drop in a decade, with dealers delivering 216,110 cars vs 255,667 last year, still down 16 percent from the 1972 record.
President Ford paused a World Series game to deliver a homespun talk on fighting inflation. He urged savings, bargain hunting, slower driving, turning off lights, finishing meals, and getting enough sleep to a Future Farmers of America convention.
A 24 year old Fresno golfer Mike Bakula hit a crop dusting pilot on the 12th hole at Fort Washington Golf Course. The ball shattered the windshield and bounced off the pilot’s helmet before he calmly diverted and landed at a vineyard airstrip. The pilot David Hughes praised the incident as an example of quick judgment.
President Ford and former President Nixon both declined Oakland A's owner Charles O. Finley's offer to throw out the first ball in the World Series. Ford returned Finley's call from Kansas City where he spoke to the nation on television, while Nixon cited ill health in a conversation about attendance.

President Ford is set to sign a $7.75 billion housing bill aimed at unlocking private money for new mortgages. The measure, passed by voice vote in the House and approved by the Senate, would buy conventional mortgages up to 42 000 per home to spur 100 000 new houses and lower credit barriers.

Two 17 year olds, Matthew R. Bell and Ralph D. McIntire, died when the 1968 Ford Galaxie they rode in veered from Ohio 601 into a tree near Norwalk. Betty Garton, backing from a driveway, was not harmed. Eyewitness Sandy Schnell, a EHOVE student, described a high speed impact and the driver speeding. The accident occurred about 3 05 p m with emergency crews called to the scene.

Local sources include Mrs. Frank Schwab Virgil Hoon and Edward J. Prior among a dozen residents. The day also hosts the Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Harvest Ball at the Norwalk Armory and the Huron County Safety Council awards dinner at the American Legion Hall.
The Norwalk Area United Fund reports a pledge total of 8826 dollars toward a fundraising goal of 86100 dollars. The drive seeks community contributions to support local agencies and programs.
About 100 former employees of Norwalk Truck Lines in Toledo area received $160 severance payments via a ruling by the Interstate Commerce Commission. Central Transport Co. of Detroit was ordered to pay due to lack of notice of plant closure as the line relocated in 1968. Officials say additional workers may still be eligible and the dispute could proceed to federal court.
