Two youths face manslaughter charges in separate courts

In Huron County Court, 17 year old Charles Perkins from New London and 18 year old Eugene White from New Haven faced manslaughter indictments stemming from fatal traffic crashes. Perkins was in juvenile court over a Route 250 crash that killed Linda Wharton. White, tried as an adult, faced four counts from a Fort Ball Road collision that killed the Eldon Murray family.

Jayne Mansfield's Son Improves After Second Major Operation

Zoltan Hargitay, 6, son of Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay, remains in satisfactory condition after a second major operation in two days following injuries from a lion attack at Jungleland Zoo. The boy had a skull fracture decompressed and cheeks and wounds repaired.

Circulars Issued For Stolen 16th Century Prints

The Cleveland Art Museum distributes circulars about two 16th century prints stolen from the museum. The museum offers a reward for their return, but director Sherman Lee would not disclose the amount.

Heaviest Snowfall In Three Years Shuts Norwalk Streets

Norwalk awoke to six inches of snow the heaviest in three years with snowfall beginning around 11 p.m. Monday and continuing through the night. Seven area accidents occurred between midnight and 7 a.m. as temperatures dipped to 23. Snow is forecast to continue with drifting and three to six more inches expected. Street crews salted and plowed. main streets opened, side streets to be cleared today.

Move to Zone Unincorporated Norwalk Township

Norwalk Township residents met to pursue zoning of unincorporated areas. After two failed attempts, they plan to gather signatures and present a petition to the township trustees. If approved a Zoning Board would draft a zoning code and seek resident approval in next fall’s election.

Willard Sisters Open State Case in White Manslaughter Trial

Deputy coroner and two Willard sisters testified as the state began presenting its case in the manslaughter trial of Eugene R. White, 18, of Greenwich, linked to a car bicycle crash that killed four Eldon Murray family members. Defense delays arose from attorney Moses Krislov’s car trouble and late arrival. The first witness, Dr. John E. Rosso, described arriving at Willard Municipal Hospital to see two ambulances carrying the Murray family victims.

Witnesses Describe Fatal Willard Car Crash Scene

Anita and Dawn Kucinic testified they saw a red Mustang driven by White pass at high speed before fishtailing and veering off a rise. Police officer David Sattig drew the crash diagram showing the car and a body east of the vehicle.

Troops Exchange Gunfire Along Jordanian Border

Israeli and Arab forces traded gunfire along the Jordanian border near Rajem Madera after an earlier Hebron area attack. Israeli spokesmen said workers were fired on, prompting return fire that ended after about three minutes. The clash followed Es Samu raid events that drew UN condemnation.

Errors Found In Norwalk School Brochure

The Committee for Norwalk Schools brochure misstates student counts at Norwalk High School and League Street School. The high school is 826 students, not 856, and League Street School has 441 students instead of 442. other figures are correct.

Red Cross Collects 130 Pints Of Blood

Huron County Chapter of the American Red Cross collected 130 pints of blood at the Bloodmobile in Norwalk Monday. Donors included Dr. N M Camardese Mrs. Evelyn Wheelock Ross Stewart Raymond Smith Robert Young Donald Daugherty Karl Leber Phil Pickett Eugene Frederick George Phillips. The staff luncheon was provided by the Christian Missionary Alliance Church and the canteen was donated by St. Peter's Lutheran Church Women’s Association with Esmond Dairy supplying milk.
