City cuts gas rate hike to three percent in Norwalk
Mayor Wayne Goodsite announced Columbia Gas Co will reduce its proposed rate increase from 16 to 3 percent for two years starting January. UPI reports the U S guided missile cruiser Belknap docked at dawn in Prio lo Sicily after a fiery collision with the carrier John Kennedy. Four sailors were killed and 45 injured with two Belknap crewmen missing. Pilot notes say engine room explosion may have sparked fire from Kennedy’s jet fuel. Crewmembers fought flames, raised the Stars and Stripes, and the ship was towed to port by tugs as the Kennedy continued search efforts.

Santa Is Stoned Mobbed At Wheeling Christmas Parade
A brick was hurled at Santa Claus during Wheeling West Virginia’s Christmas parade, narrowly missing him. About 40 eight year old boys boarded the float and damaged a wooden reindeer by breaking off two legs. Santa urged the youngsters to dismount after blocks of climbing over him.
