Former president Richard Nixon discussed making Spiro Agnew resign so John Connally could become vice president, Ehrlichman says in Inquiry. Nixon reportedly considered offering Agnew a Supreme Court seat, but the senatorial confirmation process deterred him.
The 11 year old son of a tanning company executive was found unharmed in a motel room in Menlo Park after being abducted by two masked men for a $30000 ransom. One suspect was captured when a police SWAT team raided the room while the other was arrested at a railroad station after receiving the ransom.
A sweeping snowstorm spreads from the Pacific Northwest into the northern Rockies and Midwest, dumping large drifts in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Schools closed and at least two fatal highway accidents occurred as authorities warn of advancing winter conditions. Eastern Airlines slashes 339 management positions in a restructuring aimed at saving $8.7 million a year.
