In Plains Georgia the congregation approved amending a 1965 ban and voting by secret ballot to allow everyone to worship Jesus Christ. The decision follows Jimmy Carter's long push for racial integration and was described as a peacemaking move by members.
Don Sydall of Gravesend England learned from an X ray that he has harbored a bullet in his back for 36 years without symptoms. Doctors chose not to operate as the pain is diagnosed as sciatica and likely from the old wound suffered during fighting near Dunkirk in 1940.

In Sherman Texas Jamie Thomas, a leukemia patient, told his family he would die. He faced a painful course with doctors keeping hope. he died after a rare autumn snow and plans for a Santa visit were foiled. His friend Ronnie, a fellow patient, had died weeks earlier. Jamie hoped to gift Ronnie a stuffed animal Tigger.
The UPI report states healthy children aged 3 to 18 will be excluded from the nationwide swine flu program due to vaccine shortages. Only eight million doses suitable for children will be ready before February, allowing about four million children to be immunized after two doses.
With three days left in the program only 25 percent of eligible residents in Huron County have received the swine flu vaccine. County Health Commissioner Dr Howard Sparks cites publicity on vaccine deaths as a factor while 24 000 doses remain for about 4 800 recipients. Final clinics run noon to 6 pm in Monroeville Wakeman and Bellevue for adults 18 plus unless allergic to eggs or recently vaccinated.
Mayor Wayne Goodsite announced Vernis George will replace Doug Colvin as Norwalk finance director on Jan 1. George, 60, has been deputy finance director and grants chief since 1972 and will balance the 1977 budget amid a predicted 215000 deficit while pursuing federal funds for a raw water line.
Norwalk finance director Colvin resigns to pursue the vacancy created by Don Pease leaving the Ohio Senate for Congress. He joins Huron County Commissioner Maurice Smith as a Democrat candidate in the 13th district with local party leaders to make a recommendation to the Senate.
The Huron High School Tigers completed an 11-0 season with a 27-20 victory over Bellevue to reach the state AAA football playoffs. They face Elyria Catholic in a Saturday semi final at Baldwin Wallace College Berea at 7 30 PM.
A 12 year old Plymouth boy named Kevin Todd Lacy was shot in the left thigh during target practice at his sister’s rural Willard home. He is listed in good condition at Mansfield General Hospital after a .22 caliber bullet ricocheted off the ground. His 17 year old friend was present and the shooting is under investigation by the Huron County Sheriff's Department.
