Luis Tiant signed a two year contract with the New York Yankees for about 250 000 per season and a total package near 800 000 to 900 000. The deal includes a possible third year as a pitcher and Tiant will serve as director of Latin American affairs after retirement. The veteran pitcher cited seeking security for his family and expressed that Boston let him go too readily.
