Lefty Grove Honored with Distinguished Citizen Award in Norwalk
Norwalk Chamber of Commerce named Robert Moses Lefty Grove the 1969 Distinguished Citizen at the annual dinner at Norwalk Junior High. Grove recalled baseball memories and met President Nixon at a centennial banquet. Other Dedicated Service Awards were given to William Baines, Mrs. Alex Kimmel, and Tom Paffenbarger for community efforts including Little League, Red Cross work, Bloodmobile outreach, and Airport Authority service.

First Snow Flurries Of Season Hit Huron County
The first snow of the season touched parts of Huron County Thursday night with more flurries forecast for tonight. A trace covered eastern townships while North Fairfield saw brief flakes. Monroeville had no snow. Heavy snow squalls warned for Northeast Ohio, especially the snow belt of Lake Geauga and Ashtabula Counties. Several inches possible tonight into Saturday with motorist warnings. Northwest Ohio, including Huron County, expected light flurries tonight.

Wife of defendant aided search for murder weapon
Bellevue police chief testified that Susan Brown, her father Dale Strecker, and the chief searched a Sandusky County field on Sunday April 27 for a gun linked to the murder of William Famulare but found nothing. The gun was later linked to the case and entered as a state exhibit at John Brown's first degree murder trial. a larger search with metal detectors occurred April 28.

Man Hurt In Recovery Ship Exercise Aboard Hornet
Five sailors were thrown into the sea and one seriously injured during a man overboard drill on the USS Hornet 1265 miles southwest of Honolulu. A lifting hook failed to trip, dumping the crew into the water as a whaleboat lowered to recover a dummy. The injured man, named only as a whaleboat engineer, was treated onboard. Two other boats remained ready for astronauts recovery on November 24.
